This is a worker’s reprieve checkpoint. I only want you to engage with this post if you’re shirking your duties on the clock right now. We are going to make it. We are going to text and scroll on company time. We are going to find a corner or bathroom to linger in while something needs doing. Get some!

while i still can’t decide on what the funniest part of disco elysium is i think the whole bit with the alphabet book is up there. describing it doesn’t even do it justice but like. it’s the way harry goes “let’s do this” “mmhm” “yeah!” while slowly and thoughtfully reading the alphabet in his head. how every letter is represented by some obscure fuckass discoelysiumey word like AZIMUTH or PERIHELION even though it’s a kids book but X is still for xylophone because of course it is. how you can immediately go tell kim you know the alphabet now and he goes “good. i also know the alphabet.” and the fucking esprit the corps check going “it is a very useful skill to have, he thinks. for all sorts of life activities. like reading, and…” and that’s the end of the scene and it doesn’t even give you exp or anything but at least you can sleep well tonight knowing you taught harry du bois the alphabet. congratulations

The best part is you can bring it up at the underground communist reading group and have a serious critical discussion about it.

More than something political, the yanqui obsession with guns seem to be a fashion/identity one. Much like smartphones, those Stanley thermos or virtually anything, the US seems to have this property of turning everything into fashion.

You see countries that have high firearm ownership because of warfare or organized crime. The United States is unique because it’s because of market forces.

Put yourself outside and look at it. There is no realistic need for anyone, not even in a war zone, to own the amount of guns Usamerican gun-nuts own. No combat force puts such an emphasis in customization and useless crap. Is there a political component to it? Yes. But it’s also fashion. There are corporations that sell guns and accesories to a market hungry for them, with marketing and everything. Much like they sell the latest iPhone, they sell guns and do they get rich from it.

And only a country as ridiculously wealthy like the US would be rich enough for civilians to buy small arsenals like this. Because there’s no self defense involved here (a questionable concept in the first place) self defense would emphasize doing more with less, irregular warfare is fighting with what you got. In no other country are weapons seen as consumer items.

Guns are collector items, hobby items. Have you seen how Usamericans talk about weapons? NOBODY talks like them, they talk about guns like if they’re Gundam models or fishing reels, but they’re talking about tools designed to kill people.

It’s all consumerism all the way down.

I found this post and not only I still stand by it, here’s an article that talks about it.

I was imagining “reverse creep radiohead” as a bit and now I can’t stop thinking of “I wish you were special, I’m so fucking special” and laughing
