2026 Word Tracking Spreadsheet

For those who have used it before, the 2026 Word Tracking Spreadsheet is now available!

For those who have no idea what I’m talking about, the annual word tracking spreadsheet is a robust Excel sheet (it can be used in Google Sheets or other programs that are able to read .xlsx files) which allows you to track your wordcount goals and actual achieved wordcount across several projects. There are graphs, time tracking, and many little bells and whistles.

This is a spreadsheet I created for myself back in 2012 and I’ve been changing it bit by bit as I discover new things I want to track, or ways to motivate myself. I can’t remember exactly when I started sharing it publicly, but I’m happy to share the blank spreadsheet each year.

Both the spreadsheet and an instruction document are available via Google Drive:

This year we are not going into or out of a leap year, so there should be no bugs. I also happened to discover a bug in the annual stats rollup page that slipped past everything last year, and fixed that. Yay for stomping bugs! Sorry it slipped through before…

Sharing this spreadsheet continues to be a bit bittersweet for me, as this was another year where I struggled to write new words, whether they were fic, original, or blogs. I had my ups and downs, and at times, seemed to disappear completely. However, I did do a lot of editing, and am excited to be incredibly close to being done with that major push soon.

Again, there are no changes other than the dates being updated to 2026, and the additional columns for 2026 added to stats, and the dynamic 2025 columns being moved to static information. All charts should be updated correctly.

I do want to add tracking for project rollups (what kind of work was done), better tracking for time, and figure out a way to get a better view of the time I do spend on not just writing, but writing related tasks. However, I haven’t managed to figure out how to chart it, so those aren’t yet in the publicly shared sheet. Someday, I hope.

Please feel free to signal boost this post and share the file. If you make changes to the file and share it, please credit mine as the inspiration.

One more reblog, and this time it is only to say a heartfelt thank you to the love I’ve seen in the tags. You are all wonderful, lovely people, and I hope this spreadsheet brings you what you need for the year. Love and hope for a wonderful 2026.

Back the Campaign to Fund Publishing the Twinned Trilogy Today!

A banner with a cobblestoned street in black-and-white at night as the background. It's entitled The Twinned Trilogy by Tris Lawrence, and shows three books covers: Book 1, Commit to the Kick, featuring a muscular man in a purple and white football uniform with a roaring bear and dragon behind him; Book 2, Missed Fortunes, with two people in casual modern clothing falling from a tower as the twoer burns and explodes, cards falling about them; and Book 3: Into the Split, showing two people from behind as they look toward three gnarled, dark trees in a heavily shadowed forest. The Duck Prints Press logo is in the upper right corner.ALT

Starting today, and running through Wednesday, January 28th, we’re raising funds to publish the third and last book of the Twinned trilogy by Tris Lawrence ( @tryslora ) ! Whether you backed the campaigns for books 1 and 2, or you’re just hearing about these books for the first time from this post, now is a great time to get one book, get two books, or get the whole trilogy so you can read the full story!

People with Talent—Mages, Dreamwalkers, shapechangers, and others—have always lived among mankind. Their existence was hidden until ten years ago, when the world was abruptly introduced to the existence of these secret magic users after a young gymnast spontaneously teleported during the Olympics. This event heralded the start of the Emergence; whereas, once, Talents were close-kept secrets that ran in family lines, now everyone knew that there were people with incredible abilities in communities all over the world.

The Emergence wrought changes at every level of society.

At Pine Hills University, a small liberal-arts college in Upstate New York, these changes have been pronounced, as the University has taken the lead in studying Talent academically: encouraging Talented students to apply, hiring Talented faculty, and debuting Talent-related curricula, minors, and majors.

This is the milieu against which the events of the Twinned trilogy unfold. Ten years has been just long enough for the young, Talented students of Pine Hills University to think they know where they fit in the world—but there are many changes yet to come…

For this campaign, we’re also making some fun Pine Hills University merchandise—the crest of the fictional university as an enamel pin, a car back-window sticker, and one of our signature dux in a PHU-colored varsity jacket.

Oh and – these books are hella queer! The main character is a gay aro man, the lead of the second is asexual biromantic and has a trans twin brother, and book 3 features an established m/m relationship between the leads. That’s just the tip of the iceberg; lots of the side characters are also LGBTQIA+.

Visit our Kickstarter campaign page and learn all the details, read the book blurbs and excerpts, see the merch, get to know Tris Lawrence, and more!

duckprintspress:

If the only valid queer rep is explicit queer rep, that’s a huge problem. There are lots of old books that simply could not include explicit rep. There are lots of new books that it wouldn’t make sense for the rep to be explicit. There are a lots of settings where they’re not going to take a moment and go “by the way, I’m bi, not gay.”

There has to be room for subtextual and interpretative queerness, even when discussing a canon where queerness is never acknowledged as existing.

There also has to be room for people to disagree with those interpretations, and of course some interpretations will be more supportable, canonically, than others, and sometimes we simply won’t be able to say “this character is that rep (as opposed to some other rep)” conclusively.

There has to be space in our readings of books to be comfortable with this ambiguity, and there has to be a minimum good-faith acceptance that if someone says “that book was queer to me,” even if the book isn’t explicit queer and doesn’t read queer to someone else… that doesn’t change the nature of the queerness.

Some of y'all really need to accept that there’s not only one way to read a book, and there never will be, and that’s okay.

Celebrate Wikipedia Day with Our Favorite Wikipedia Articles!

image

Today is Wikipedia Day, an annual celebration of Wikipedia’s founding anniversary! The community-built encyclopedia for all turns 24 years old today. Normally, Duck Prints Press doesn’t highlight specific businesses or even non-profits as part of our posts, but we decided to make an exception for Wikipedia, especially with it facing unprecedented challenges caused by the growing popularity of generative AI (boo, hiss). There are a handful of services and organizations that Duck Prints Press supports with modest monthly contributions, and Wikipedia is one of them.

Since we love Wiki so much, we wanted to celebrate its birthday too! Many of us have wiled away otherwise empty hours by falling down the Wikipedia rabbit hole. We’ve uncovered many gems that way, or while researching specific topics. Today, Nina Waters, S. J. Ralston, boneturtle, Shannon, Rascal Hartley, Shadaras, and an anonymous contributor share our favorite Wikipedia pages!

The Lamb by Lucy Rose - Margot and Mama live in a cottage in the woods, and they eat ”strays”, lost people who come by their home looking for help. Everything changes when a woman named Eden shows up and mama falls in love.

The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling - a medieval fortress under siege, a starving people, a woman in a tower trying to create a miracle, a lady knight forced to protect her, a disgraced noblewoman looking for revenge and saints showing up in the flesh. Yep, there’s cannibalism in this one too.

Don’t Let the Forest in by CG Drews - toxic and codependent gays at a boarding school with a forest where the horror creatures they wrote and illustrated might be coming to life.

My Darling Dreadful Thing by Johanna Van Veen - Roos lives a dreadful life with her mother, but at least she has Ruth, the ghost and spirit companion only she can see. One day she meets Agnes, a woman like her who has a spirit companion of her own, and she gets whisked away to her haunted manor.

Bunny by Mona Awad - Samantha goes to a literature class with a group of girls who call themselves the bunnies, and one day she gets invited to hang out with them and participate in their ”art”.

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield - Miri’s wife has finally come back from a disastrous deep-sea expedition, but she has not come back unchanged.

Last Series: Uh… Haven’t watched TV in a while…

Tea or Coffee: Tea! Especially loose leaf

Sweet or Salty: Depends on if this is a meal or dessert. I love sweets, but I also like seafood and all

Working On: I mainly want to rework on some of my fanfics to make them stronger. I also have a few original stories that I’m working on

Red text reading Poly Podweek 2026 in a tall and narrow serif font lays on a background inspired by 50s travel posters. The scene is of a bright yellow and orange mountain range in the background and deep blue ski slope in the foreground. The image is framed by an off white border, like an old polaroid photo. At the bottom a text in bold red letters says 'Collection OPEN'ALT

Only 3 more weeks to go!

And with that, it’s time for last year’s collections to close, and this year’s collection to open!

Collection? Only one? Good catch!
Something new we’re trying this year is merging both the SFW and NSFW collections together.
The reasons for separating them have always been slightly convoluted and since AO3 already provides the tools to separate mature and explicit content when browsing, it’s become increasingly obvious that the cons of having two collections outweigh the pros.

You can find the now singular collection HERE
As per usual, it will remain unrevealed until the event officially starts.

Happy holidays everybody, and to all the early birds—happy posting!

faves of 2025: aro & ace books

this is not quite ’favourite books that happen to have aspec MCs’ or ‘favourite specifically in regard to the aspec-ness’ - somewhere in between. or a little of each. it’s only light in some of them. I read 90 aspec books in 2025.
