Do you think a second Edition could help Lancer?
Provided that it was writen with fixing the probelms in the Core and Frames.
The core mech combat gameplay loop is solid. I don’t think a second edition would need to change very much.
The things I’d really like to see in a theoretical 2E Lancer are the following:
- Integration of the changes made in Kai Tave’s NPC Rebake. In my opinion, Lancer’s single biggest issue is the combat experience at higher levels of play, which the rebake fixes entirely. Vanilla enemies get absurd damage output via multiattack and scaling accuracy, whereas Rebake NPCs are still significant threats but have more reasonable damage outputs and broader tactical applications.
- Better core powers for the Goblin and the Death’s Head.
- Serious revision of the out-of-mech narrative gameplay loop. It’s a little too freeform right now.
A few more adds
- Flight rework; the existent system is just full of headaches.
- Adding some generic GMS Tech Attack LL0 modules so you’re not between the rock of Ok Spam FragSig as an Everest and the hard place of Have Game Breaking Tech as a Chomo
- Core Bonus tweaks; I see a lot of very samey use in play because most CB for utility lose out to specific bonuses.
- Death’s Head rework. The whole mech needs it, the state of the game just left that poor thing behind. Napoleon too, for that matter.
- Better Superheavy Weapon rules to reduce Mass CPR Spam
- Finally, fix the damn delete issue with CompCon. Please.
Heavily agree with almost all of this, but specifically talking about tech attacks reminds me:
I would remove Puppet Systems from Goblin’s H0R_OS 1 and put it on the Minotaur’s Viral Logic Suite, in exchange for VLS’ Banish. This would mean you could no longer dip 1 into Goblin for the only two tech attack options you’ll ever need if you’re not piloting a Chomolungma. Sorry, but H0R_OS 1 does not need to be that good. It’s game-warping.

I have never heard of this being a problem.
CPR is the only low level superheavy I’ve ever seen get used and in my experience its pretty rare for anyone to use anything else, but the reason behind that makes sense (its just very reliable and useful in a lot of situations without needing setup, unlike, say, the death’s head railgun), and also my experience is pretty limited.
unless they mean people going cpr > stabilize > repeat, in which case ??? this is not a problem
