Two days passed before Zevlor and yourself decided that you simply couldn’t ignore each other forever. Early in the morning, you found him by the river, practicing, his longsword cutting through the air with impressive speed. Zevlor may no longer have been a Hellrider, but he hadn’t lost his touch in combat. If anything, his new responsibilities among the refugees had only pushed him to work harder. 

His white shirt clung to him, sweat visible through the fabric; you wondered how long he had already been training, and whether the man ever slept at all.

At first, you chalked it up to stress. Zevlor’s tail truly had a mind of its own, and he had too much on his plate to notice when the unruly thing impeded on your personal space. It had started in battle— a close encounter with yet another goblin pack wandering near the grove. One of their blades had come too close, and would have found its mark if not for Zevlor’s tail lashing out, wrapping around your bicep to pull you out of harm’s way. You hadn’t thought much of it then; that was before the contact lasted long enough for you to notice.
