Ok something making me crazy right now about Spamtenna and the newsletter is that it actually reinforced a characterization of Tenna that I had been thinking about for a while
The reason Tenna is constantly insisting that Spamton scammed him and ran out on him is because that’s the world where he has to live in if he wants to believe that Spamton is still ok.
Realistically he knows that Spamton is probably not doing well out there.. or even worse that he’s dead, and that if that’s true… at least to some extent it’s all his fault. So instead he imagines that Spamton just… ran out on him! Scammed him! Because that’s the only way Spamton can still be alive and happy out there.
Tenna has to believe that Spamton is a dirty scamming no-good liar. He has to… otherwise….
Spamton is hurt, suffering, and maybe even dead: all because Tenna couldn’t protect him like he thought he could. Because he didn’t listen to Mike’s warning, because he became to fixated on being big (aka never being forgotten or thrown out which would basically be death). And doing it with Spamton..
Tenna’s main flaw here is his arrogance. The fat that he thought he was powerful enough that, even if something happened he could keep them both safe. That no matter what Spamton would just, come back. I have no doubt in my mind that Tenna waited and waited for Spamton to just: come back. Like he always did. And then… he didn’t. And that meant there were two options: Spamton left to go be a big shot by himself. Or he can’t because something horrible happened.
And of course: Tenna can’t stand the idea that the worst came to pass, so he pretends Spamton is fine.. even if that means Spamton abandoned him.
