the whole “real punk values” thing is literally like the whole thing liberal religious people do where theyre like “well REAL christian values are actually kindness and charity and socialism” in very very vague and cherry picked terms that ignores the wider issue of harmful values its just the secular version. “real” punk values are not a real thing. this is not a legitimate belief system. every individual person who listens to punk rock music will have a different belief system and historically punk musicians have all been very different from each other. there have always always been leftist punks and liberal punks and conservative punks and there are very very well established subsets of punk that are extremely and explicitly white supremacist and you cant say any one of these is “real punk” or “not real punk” because it is literally just a music and aesthetic based subculture. you cant say racist skinheads are “not real punks” because that is categorically untrue and does absolutely nothing to combat the proliferation of those ideologies. it only ignores the issue of bigotry within a subculture rather than doing something about it.
