People love to say things like “Hiding Anne Frank was illegal, turning her in would have been legal” without like fully grasping the modern implications properly. You have tons of folks like “if WW2 happened today id have __” that do not realize what is happening around them.
We have this idolized AND sanitized version of what happened then, and so we do not recognize it when it happens now.

As someone on the front lines of the court system, I’m confirming this. It’s easy to assume that people are being hyperbolic. They’re not. People in the courthouse for speeding tickets and child support are being strongarmed into locked rooms and arrested, loaded into vans under tents behind the courthouse, and they built a fence with netting over it to prevent reporters and court watchers from photographing faces.
One local jail contracted with ICE voluntarily. We were getting close to forcing them to actually follow the rules of ICE detainers and release people if ICE hadn’t come for them. That’s over now. If anyone gets bond on a pending criminal charge, they are arrested and deported without the chance to prove innocence or guilt.
Two of my clients were victims of severe domestic violence. Nearly all have dependent children. Some of the children are US citizens. There are no questions. No support. Give your kids to CPS — this is the only option.
You know undocumented people can get a driver’s license? They can file taxes and get a tax ID? Those, the ones who tried to obey the law, are being taken out one by one, because their names are in a database that they voluntarily joined. Because they want to be here. They want to be Americans.
The judge in a case of mine gave someone a two-day jail sentence. Gone. Case deferrals for dismissal are available for all Americans; if an undocumented person tries to take the same deal, they’re gone. A child client of mine had his father disappear to ICE. A woman had her husband disappear.
It’s now. Detainees kept in horrible conditions, unfed, unwashed, no lawyers, no doctors. It’s now. Shipped to countries where they’ve never been and left without papers. It’s now. It’s now. It’s happening now. It’s happening now.
I think people are kinda skimming over the fact that Greenland is colonized by the Danish, because many people seem to think that colonization can only happen when the Yanks do it.

I don’t think white ppl could ever possibly conceptualize how much whiteness has been shovef down everyone else’s throats nonstop 24/7 for our entire lives.
I just find the white perspective inherently boring because I’ve been bombarded by it my entire life.
Seeing black and brown ppl simply living life is inherently beautiful and profound to me. It feels fresh and colorful, like something I knew existed, because I live this beautiful colorful life. But still feels new or rare to see captured accurately in the arts.
one of my easily triggered rants is that it’s reactionary to hate sad endings and horror and kink and narratives that deal with unpleasant real world issues, because what you’re demonstrating is a reluctance to engage with discomfort. people who say “I just don’t see the point of sad endings, we deal with enough crap in real life,” or stuff of that ilk are doubling down on their rejection of discomfort and rationalizing it, and guess what, that’s a reflex that doesn’t just end with media consumption.

It really is incredible that western media is as credulous about Israeli military reports as US media is about police reports considering both groups are serial liars and murderers. Like the IOF just launched a missile into Gaza and claimed that 5 islamist militants had been killed, then when photos of the 6 dead kids they’d actually killed emerged they backpedaled and said no missile had been launched and that it had been a Palestinian rocket misfire. This is all taken at face value in the same way police saying a guy with his hands cuffed behind his back in the back of a squad car shot himself in the head is. Total willing complicity.
It’s taken weeks for Israel to admit to it’s crimes as it always does but now what everyone not gleefully committed to the apartheid project already knew has been confirmed.

Sometimes bad people make good art, sometimes very good people make absolutely dogshit art. In order to live in the world, we have to learn to reconcile those things.
There is no magic that makes a good artist a good person, just the same as there is no piece of art so good that it can force a person from an abuser to an angel. Plenty of Nazis grew up shouting along to Rage Against The Machine, and some of the kindest people you may ever meet can have been raised on conservative talk radio and megachurch media. People are complicated.
