Non-binary: literally outside of the gender binary. It's not a specific gender. It's not a specific pronoun, identity or look. You don't have to be a specific way to be non-binary. You don't HAVE TO be androgynous, alternative, afab, or use they/them pronouns. (we generally should avoiding terms like afab/amab but I'm allowing myself to say it once. Cus amab non-binary people are constantly underminded and told they're not really trans). NON-BINARY IS A GENERAL TERM for trans people who are not men or women, it's that easy. It's stupid to treat it like a box. They don't have to make their identities fit a certain category so that cis people can understand, their gender can also be for themselves and themselves only to understand, and it would be okay.
