No, that would also be a moderate position, because nearly all of it (except the “grant full citizenship” part, which would be implied by the rest of it) follows from the treaties which the US signed after WWII and the laws it passed to enact those treaties. If you’re just following the law as written you aren’t taking a radical position.

evpath

Thats moderate aswell.

The truly radical position is to abolish all nation states and thus the concept of citizenship. To constantly persue an end to the oppressive conditions produced by the state means the persuit of the end of any given state. In this case, the abolition of the USAmerican state, return of full land rights to the Indigenous populations, and the complete opening of borders to immigrants and visitors whether they are refugees or not.

If you're at work in a retail or hospitality environment and you see a sex worker with a client... no you didn't.

If your boss asks you if you think that person's a sex worker, you tell them you do not believe that. You don't report their presence to anyone. You don't joke about it with a coworker. You don't eavesdrop or bother them.

We're working the same as you are. Leave us alone!

mxjackparker

Some examples of situations where you might need to keep your mouth shut about a potential sex worker:

  • You see someone you don't recognize walk past reception at your hotel to head directly for the stairs or elevator or towards the rooms without acknowledging you at the reception desk. Yes, this includes when the person is wearing revealing clothing or a nice dress and heels. This is not your business.
  • You notice multiple men going to the same hotel room during the same evening, each only staying for an hour or so at a time. This is not your business.
  • You seat two customers for dinner and work as their waiter/waitress for the night. You see one give an envelope of cash to the other. Yes, this includes when there's a huge age gap between the two and they're being affectionate. This is not your business.
  • You overhear one customer ask another how much they charge for a night, whilst making drinks for them. You heard nothing. This is not your business.

I do not care what kind of retail or hospitality setting you work in. If you see a sex worker, no you didn't!

astra-the-dragon

if the cops get involved, you know who gets punished? not any of the clients, only the sex worker. not a pimp, not the hotel manager, only the worker; and the cops are liable to sexually assault them as well.

if you have any qualms about sex work, you can start by improving workers' rights as a whole. demilitarizing police. increasing comprehensive sex ed for all ages. battling misogyny in the workplace. under the boot of capitalism, we all suffer - the most vulnerable, such as sex workers, suffer worst. leave them be.

@sparrowofsong You seem to be missing the point of the post with these tags.

The training you got is bad. The second point here, about not reporting someone because multiple men go in and out of a room, is not a sign of trafficking and traffickers do not generally use hotels as a base - they rent commercial buildings or flats. Multiple men going into a room is far far more likely to be an independent sex worker, and when we get kicked out of places where we can work alone we're more likely to seek out managers and brothels and be exploited.

Training about how to spot sex trafficking is fear mongering intended to make you into a spy for the surveillance state against sex workers. Do not comply.

please read this story of a man accidentally discovering his wife is the world's best Tetris player

lichfucker

[image description: an excerpt of text that says:

“It’s funny,” I told Flewin. “We have an old Nintendo Game Boy floating around the house, and Tetris is the only game we own. My wife will sometimes dig it out to play on airplanes and long car rides. She’s weirdly good at it. She can get 500 or 600 lines, no problem.”

What Flewin said next I will never forget.

“Oh, my!”

TL;DR on the article

The husband was writing an article on classic video game records, was surprised to find out that holding the Tetris record is a bit of a big deal, and mentions how good his wife is at it.

The guy he’s talking to mentions that the record is 327, way lower than his wifes usual scores of 500-600.

They travel to a tournament, and she goes to do her attempt. Just after she beats 327, and is climbing higher, a judge brings up to the husband that the specific version she’s playing actually has a different record of 545.

She overhears that she needs to beat 500-something, and keeps going, setting the record at 841.

weirdoughnut

which, they later find out, is her second-best record

There was a decent but ultimately forgettable fantasy novel I read a long time ago that had a single moment that stuck with me.

The protagonist has just won the world famous sword fighting competition in the big, rich capital and is talking to his mentor, and says something about being the best swordsman in the world. The mentor frowns and tells him that no, he isn't. He is the best swordsman out of the people that could afford to show up to this tournament. There could be a mercenary way out in the mountains, patrolling a snow encrusted fort's walls that could kick his ass and there was no way to know until he was already losing to the guy.

I think about that a lot, and how for every apparently dominant competitor, there might be a fucking ronin out there somewhere capable of destroying them.

Guys if you want queer shit written by queers on our own terms you're going to have to start seeking out weird independent media. I'm sorry that's the only place you can regularly find it idk what to tell you, we can't keep acting like there's nothing if we're not getting blockbusters and triple A titles or whatever it is we're waiting around for. The thing you keep saying you want is already being offered for free by one person making a passion project on the internet and you would both benefit enormously if you interacted with it instead of lamenting that the only options we have for representation are pandering afterthoughts from corporate shit

I say this with so, so much care: Real queer shit written by real queers can and will sometimes make you uncomfortable. That's one of the defining features of weird, independent queer media. And weird independent media more broadly. Art that comes from true individual passion and authenticity has edges and bite to it that mass market corporate products intentionally do not. Has a rawness that can offend.

You are allowed to feel uncomfortable about it. But don't ask for queers to self censor for your comfort.
