A subtle detail I love in PMMM is that “Sis Puella Magica” (one of the best tracks ever btw) is often played whenever Kyubey or someone else is explaining how the world- especially magic- in PMMM’s universe works. It plays during Mami’s initial explanation of magical girls and Witches, during Kyubey’s explanation of entropy and why his race decided to invent the magical girl system to begin with, and when Kyubey is telling Madoka about the millennia-long history of magical girls. “Sis Puella Magica” even translates to “Be a Magical Girl!” which makes the song seem to fit into Kyubey’s scheme.
But during episode 12, “Sis Puella Magica” plays when Madoka makes her final wish and is explaining to Kyubey how her new world is going to work. The song adds weight to Madoka’s wish because we’ve seen it being used to emphasize the preexisting power structures so many times before, except now it’s being used to underscore how Madoka is going to change them. It’s a really cool detail!
