In case people don’t realize the full extent of what’s going on, we are under siege in Minnesota. I live in an affluent, majority white suburb of Minneapolis, and ICE is all over the place terrorizing people. They showed up at the library, kitted out in their Temu tactical gear, and stormed it.

The library. Please let that sink in.

They’ve pulled weapons on legal observers and physically attacked them. They’re threatening teenagers and children with death. One woman told a story at my, again, affluent, majority white suburban town’s city council meeting this week of being shoved from behind so hard that she fell down by an ICE agent, who then said to her, “Stop touching me.” A man, in tears and begging for our city government to do something to help our neighbors, described having a baton pulled on him. They’re luring people out of their workplaces with lies about “hitting someone’s car in the parking lot” and then abducting them. Citizens and legal residents are being detained. People are being racially profiled and snatched. A teenager (a US citizen) working at Target got dragged out and shoved in a car, then dumped a mile away in a Wal-mart parking lot, beaten up and crying. And all of this is after they murdered Renee Good.

I don’t emphasize the demographics of my particular suburb to say “but this shouldn’t be happening here, we have money!” but to illustrate that the Trump administration has declared war on a US state. Even if you stick your head in the sand because you’re white and won’t be directly targeted, ICE is running traffic lights, speeding, tearing the wrong way on one way streets, and causing nasty accidents because they think they’re above the law. They think it doesn’t matter who they hurt or kill, because they’re being told straight from the top that they can do whatever they want to whoever they want.

We are all under attack, and this is coming to a city near you if we don’t stand up to it. Please stand with Minnesota, as well as LA, Portland, Chicago, and every other place DHS has sent their COD cosplay gestapo. I don’t know what that looks like for you but please, please, don’t ignore this.

The bad driving is a form of terrorism. They want to cause accidents so they can blame it on the victims, and potentially cause more unrest. It really is just random acts against anyone in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Let me be clear to my fellow white Americans: they want to scare us into not objecting. They want us to put our heads down and be quiet and do as we are told while they abduct and kill our neighbors.

They are doing this not just to terrorize immigrants but to frighten us into silent compliance (or attract the worst among us into active collusion).

If you, fellow white American, ever wondered about “ordinary Germans” in the 1940s, well. Who do you want to be? Which side are you on? When they kick at your front door, how you gonna come?

Do you think Sam likes Danny romantically for his powers or do you think she still genuinely likes him even without his powers? I only ask since I've seen some claim "Sam only likes Danny for his powers" as a criticism against her and using episodes like Fanning the Flames (where she started blushing at Danny when seeing him fly in ghost form together), Double Cross My Heart (where she dates a guy who looks like Danny in his ghost form), and Phantom Planet (where she gets mad at Danny for giving up his powers) as ammo for that.

This may surprise some people, but I do think it’s entirely possible that Sam wouldn’t feel the same way about Danny if his powers weren’t part of the equation. However, I think it’s important to look at what that actually means and what people are trying to say when they bring this up.

Danny Fenton is Danny Phantom. In the same way that Tucker is a techno geek or Sam is a goth. The reason Sam is the love interest who wins in the end isn’t because she loves both halves of Danny equally, but because she’s the only one who sees all of him and still likes him.

Some people might only realize they’re attracted to their friends once they get an especially nice haircut, or when they start getting muscles or curves. The fact that you didn’t used to feel that way about them doesn’t change the way you feel now.

When some fans argue that Sam “only likes Danny for his ghost powers,” what they’re really trying to say is that Sam is bad for him and doesn’t care about him as a whole, which is demonstrably false. She’s always cared about Danny. She likes being around him. She’s fiercely protective of him. She hates seeing other people mistreat him. She’s also a 14yo girl who’s only just starting to figure out what she likes, and having a guy who can literally fly her around in his arms is pretty friggin’ cool.

If Sam just wanted the novelty of a superhero boyfriend, she would’ve been all over Super!Danny in Identity Crisis, but she wasn’t. She likes Danny Phantom because he is Danny Fenton. He’s a superhero who also happens to be her best friend. They can have fun together. He makes her feel accepted. He’s irritating and stubborn and a giant nerd. Danny Phantom wouldn’t be Danny Phantom anymore if you took those things away, and the Danny we see at the end of the series wouldn’t be who he is if he hadn’t been through all the development that made him a stronger, more confident person. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Sam liking what she sees when he’s all together.

I’ll talk specifically about how Sam acts in Phantom Planet when I get to that episode, but in short, I think the issue isn’t that Sam doesn’t like him anymore without his powers and more that the writers did a poor job of getting across what she was actually trying to say. She doesn’t like seeing the boy she likes deny a huge part of who he is just because it’s easier.

People can argue about what parts of Danny Sam is really attracted to, and maybe the powers play a big part in that, but it’s not like that makes her toxic or some nonsense like that.

Yo, I came across this and just wanna say that you put it perfectly!

I have always liked Danny and Sam together even as someone who didn’t watch the show until recently. After watching the show, I think it made sense that they ended up together and the reasons you mentioned are exactly why.

Sam has always liked Danny as a friend, that’s one thing for sure. We don’t really get to see what their friendship was like before the show started, but we can make inferences based on what we’re told. There’s photos of them with Tucker from when they were in 8th grade, Danny has one of Sam’s old yearbook photos (presumably from middle school) and I think it’s mentioned that they’ve all known each other since elementary school. Danny even understands Sam’s vegetarianism more than Tucker does too, apparently lol.

I agree that it’s less of the fact that Sam “only” likes Danny because of his powers and more that him getting powers just made her look at him in a different way. She has always liked Danny as a person and if she didn’t, then she would’ve ditched him every time they get into an argument.

I think that Danny becoming Danny Phantom just made her go “wow…that’s kinda hot”, but she wouldn’t feel that way if it was anyone else besides her best friend, Danny Fenton. If she just wanted a hot ghost boyfriend, then she could probably go find one lol.

I hope that what I said makes sense. Also, wanted yo throw it out there that I’m not the anon who asked this, but I’m glad that they did!

All this^^^^^^^^^

Also, I’d just like to add that claiming Sam only cares about Phantom or that her reasons for liking him are shallow is a purposely twisted way to promote an Anti-Sam agenda.

Their romantic dynamic and why they’re endgame are based on the fact that Sam accepts both sides of him, arguably making her his healthiest romantic relationship. As opposed to Paulina and Valerie, who wouldn’t necessarily accept all of him for different reasons (Paulina only cared about Fenton in Reality Trip because he was also Phantom, whereas Valerie might (and as of the graphic novels, has) develop a more complex rapport with Danny upon knowing he’s been the ghost she hates all along).

Having said that, while the other girls might not be as accepting of his duality as Sam, you still don’t really see their reasons for liking their respective Danny twisted like Sam’s are.

Paulina is a shallow mean girl, but she fell for Danny Phantom because he saved her more than once and she recognised he was a good guy. I don’t really see her feelings be reduced to her liking him just because he’s got powers or is the town hero.

Valerie came to like Fenton after getting to know him. Nobody ever twists her feelings into her liking him simply because, I don’t know, she feels powerful saving a wimpy kid from a ghost or something. Or that she’s only into him because he does nice things for her, as some kind of clear reflection to her spoiled brat days and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

So people doing just that to Sam over a terribly worded speech we don’t even consider canon is madness and double standards, pure and simple.

You put it perfectly. Danny Phantom’s writing is a bit messy, but it’s clear the intention is that Sam likes all of Danny. Paulina and Valerie do like him. I don’t think Paulina’s feelings for Danny Phantom are purely shallow, because she liked him even before he was generally considered a hero, but she has no interest in Danny Fenton at all. Valerie’s relationship with Danny is certainly interesting and dynamic, but Fair Game made it pretty clear that she’d have a hard time accepting Danny. Sam already does and has. She cares about her dorky best friend and also maybe wants to smooch him a lot, and I think it’s sweet.

Got into a discussion about emergency response at a professional retreat recently and everyone was going on and on about agility, and I was like, “Okay but what about contingency?”

And they were like “What?”

And I was like, “Agility isn’t the ultimate form of preparedness. Contingency is. Agility still requires you to flounder and figure out a solution in the moment, but if you have a contingency plan, all you have to do is implement it.”

And they were like “But you can’t make contingency plans for every situation!”

And I was like, “Yeah, you basically can if you just identify all of your basic dependencies and contingency plan around the loss of any dependency,” and then I gave a few examples.

And they all stared at me like I’m an alien.

Anyway, that’s how I figured out I’m Batman-coded and also learned how Batman must feel talking to supposedly professional superheroes who never bothered to run disaster scenarios until I pointed out that it’s insane that they don’t already have a plan for if Superman turns evil.
