I’m officially fed up with people calling Heated Rivalry porn or arguing that it has no plot or, above all, saying that the sex scenes aren’t “necessary.”

This is reactionary, puritanical, conservative rhetoric even when it is about straight sex scenes but when you apply it to queer sex scenes I need you to shut the fuck up, especially if you’re a young queer saying this shit.

Queerness itself is considered inappropriate and “unnecessary.” Same-sex kissing alone is considered explicit, much less sex scenes.

Do you have any fucking idea how many straight people believe queer sex can’t be loving? That it can’t be tender? That it can’t be passionate? Hell, do you have any fucking idea how many straight people are unaware gay men can have sex facing each other?

How many believe that queer sex is nothing but base animal extinct? I’m not even getting into the perception of queer sex as perverse. I am talking about how many straight people believe that queer sex is only ever fucking for fucking’s sake? That it always serves the same purpose as, and exclusively the same purpose as, porn? Just to get off?

And that only adds another layer to the problem - because fucking for fucking’s sake is also queer. Casual sex is also queer. Sex detached from all societal expectations for it to be something ~sacred~ and exclusively between two people who love each other and are committed to each other is also queer. And queers have been fighting against the stigma sex like this gets from cishet society for decades because there’s nothing fucking wrong with it!

There is no queer liberation without sexual liberation.

Do I have to bring up the fucking Hayes Code? Do I have to explain to you that you are using the same rhetoric that helped justify the Hayes Code? That justifies straight people’s perceptions of queerness in media and real life? Shut the fuck up about the fucking sex scenes. Shut your fucking mouth.
