Reunion

[Part 1] @first-sinner-of-hell

Lucifer finds himself wandering Cannibal Town rather early the next morning, anxiety getting the better of him. He knows Lilith won't be here until afternoon but he can't stand the thought of missing even a moment with her.

He alternates pacing the small green park and sitting on the bench at the statue's base, head turned to stare at the representation of his family rendered in stone. It seems so long ago since they were all together.

He ends up staring at the statue for such a long time that he nearly misses the portal opening nearby, the surge of magic instead snapping his attention to the faint tear in the air, expanding outwards.

first-sinner-of-hell

Lilith had spent all night wondering about every single outcome that the next day could possibly have. She had even done a chart with doodles, resembling her own daughter in her ways of dealing with the internal panic

The early rays of sunshine from the morning almost came as a surprise as she held in her hand the papers containing her '100% fail-proof plan to have a great day in Hell'.

Lilith spent the next hours she still had to prepare herself physically and mentally. Okay, she could do this. It had only been seven years. What's seven years after knowing each other for as long as the Earth came to be? Only seven years of knowing that your husband is reaching out to you and you choose not to read until he ends up wondering if it was his fault. Fuck. Maybe she could not do this.

But she had to. Because, at the very least, Lucifer (and Charlie, too) deserved to know why she had left.

And, besides, there was that advice... How was it? Oh, yeah. "It starts with sorry."

So, smile, Lilith. You can do this.

Those were her thoughts as she opened the portal right in front of the statue, and right in front of her husband, too.

As the portal closed behind her, time in Hell seemed to stand still for a moment as she took the sight before her. Unconciously seeing the differences between the Lucifer that stood before her and the one despicted on the statue behind him.

thebigbossofhellhimself

The fallen angel has always had a bit of a tired look to him, purple eyelids making him look permanently sleep deprived despite the otherwise doll-like qualities of his face. Despite that, he look more worn out now. There is no one feature to point to, but something in the way he holds himself. Despite that, there is a tightness to his posture, somewhere between excited and terrified.

Lucifer's eyes are wide, frozen with his mouth slightly open as he watches the portal manifest and the figure step through. She look just like he remembers as yet there is something so different he cannot place. Something in the way she is holding herself. There is no way she of all people would be nervous, so it must be something else.

"Lilith?"

He utters her name barely above a whisper and takes a half-step forwards before his trance seems to break. He blinks and swallows hard, eyes dropping away to stare at the ground between them despite himself. He would let her close the distance instead of risking somehow scaring her away.

Because he must have, somehow, right?

first-sinner-of-hell

A heartbeat passed before Lilith broke out of her own thoughts. Lucifer had whispered her name, but it sounded so different. Hopeful, and yet, scared.

Lilith's mind went blank. All of the greetings she had planned during the night seemed to have fled with the leaves, gone in the wind that passed between them.

"Lucifer."

She whispered back almost unconsciously, the name almost sounding unfamiliar on her lips. She had not said it in seven years. Too much time.

Normally, Lilith would have been the one taking the step forward. She was used to have an unwavering determination, to not let anything stand in her path, not even her own thoughts.

But, right now, did she have that right?

She had deeply hurt the only two persons that had truly mattered in her life.

Lilith could only stand there, not even realizing that tears had already started to cover her cheeks. She took a shaky breath, her voice trembling as she softly spoke.

"Lucifer, I am so, so sorry."

thebigbossofhellhimself

At the soft-spoken apology, so different from whatever he was expecting, Lucifer's gaze shoot up to his wife's face.

Without proper conscious thought, the fallen angel is stepping forwards, wing unfurling to lift himself up with a gentle whoosh of air. It brings his face to Lilith's eye level, where he can cup her cheek with a hand and wipe at the tears.

He looks into her eyes and the hesitation is gone in his own, leaving hope and a deep, deep love in his own.

"It's alright, love. I forgive you, whatever it is. I would wait a hundred years if I meant I get to see your face again."

He is torn between a desire to ignore the rest of the world and an uneasy awareness that they are out in the middle of the street. He doesn't care what all of Hell thinks in this moment, but perhaps it should still be had in private. It seems this is more than either of them expected.

"Let's just go home."

first-sinner-of-hell

Lilith nodded, a soft smile appearing as she looked deep into his eyes. For a moment, she felt like they were back in Paradise, just like millenia ago.

Well, of course. For her, Paradise had always been wherever Lucifer and Charlie were.

And right now, her own paradise was home. Not the place she had for herself in Heaven. Home meant the place where your heart could rest, and that place had always meant their palace in Hell.

"Yes." Lilith talked softly, fearing that if she raised her voice, it would break the small moment. "Let's go home." She repeated.

Lilith knew she had many things to talk with Lucifer. He had forgiven her, but Lilith wanted to wait until he had heard the truth to truly treasure those words. But a heavy weight had been lifted from her heart upon hearing him.

She took one last look at the statue, focusing on the little Charlie. She wondered for herself how her little duckling was doing right now.

thebigbossofhellhimself

Lucifer pulls his queen in closer and wreaths them in red flame as space folds around them and they are suddenly in the sitting room in the Palace, the room lit by sunlight coming through the tall windows and a roaring fireplace. The room is one of the cozier ones in the Palace, smaller than most with comfortable couches and chairs and bookshelves against the walls. There are several family portraits on the walls, depicting Charlie with both her parents looking serious.

Lucifer slows his flapping wings to land gently on the carpet, having arrived in the same position they had disappeared from Cannibal Town in. He looks up at his wife now, broad smile on his face with no attention to the room around them. He leaves the feathered limbs hanging comfortably at his sides, almost boxing in the space around Lilith and himself.

"Now I have you all to myself." He says slyly, thought there is a slight fragility to it, almost testing.

first-sinner-of-hell

Lilith blinked, the sly comment actually taking her by surprise, and then..."Pff~." She couldn't help but laugh a little, a light hearted chuckle escaping her lips before she could stop it.

"Oh, Luci. You always have." Lilith answered back, as she booped him on the nose.

She let herself relax in the familiarity of the moment. Here, in the palace, it felt like the time had rewinded until almost eight years ago.

"I see you have taken good care of the palace. It hasn't changed at all." Lilith said with a happy tone as she averted her gaze from the fallen angel to take in the sights.

Unlike the park, the palace looked exactly as when she had left. Lilith could feel herself relax, tension and fear she didn't know she had leaving her shoulders as she spoke. "It feels great to be back."

thebigbossofhellhimself

Lucifer crosses his eyes to stare at the finger in his face and breaks into a gentle chuckle.

It isnt wrong to say the place hadn't changed. Aside from his frantic cleaning yesterday, Lucifer rarely used most of the rooms in the palace when he was alone. Holed up in his workshop or their bedroom for the most part. Of course, that is until he started living at the hotel the last few months.

"I am glad. Not much has changed around here while you've been gone. Charlie had been on her own for a few years so its just been me here..."

first-sinner-of-hell

“I see…” She whispered, taking in his words. “It seems our little duckling has become a swan while I was gone…” Lilith said with a proud smile.

Almost eight years ago, Charlie still lived in the palace with them. She was already thinking (and overthinking) about a project for helping sinners to redeem themselves, but it had been just random ideas thrown together into a whiteboard the last time Lilith had asked her about it.

Now, in Heaven, she had heard about how Charlie had reedemed the first sinner ever and, something about her running an hotel? Lilith really wanted to see it before going back to Heaven.

Speaking of which…

“Lu, I…” She took a few steps back and sat down on the sofa in front of the fireplace, patting the seat beside her. “I want to tell you about why I left.”

first-sinner-of-hell asked:

*A lost soul awaits at the reception hall of VoxTek. Normally, the workers would have done their job normally, but the status and the implications of such a person appearing there made them all freeze, doubting how to act.

Lilith stood on the centre of the reception hall, touching her phone with a frown on her face. Of course, after centuries, her phone would break just by spilling tea over it.

She approached a random sinner. "Excuse me? Do you repair phones here? When I asked around Hell, every sinner told me to come at VoxTek."

//Ooc: I didn't know if to send an starter, since Lilith has no way of knowing who Vox is... If this is too silly or you don't like it, feel free to ignore, no problem ^^!

voxpopulidei answered:

Vox cannot believe his eyes when he sees what cameras show him.

Lilith. No wonder all the employees froze up.

Probably, the worst thing about all this is that his first thought is to reach for his phone and text Charlie (@charliemorningstarsblog) that her mother is in the hall of his company. But he stops himself.

First of all, notifying princess would rob him of advantage in intel.

Second of all, is that even the real Lilith? What if that’s a look-alike or some shit?

Third of all, what if she heard about his whole plan and his feud with his daughter and came here to smite him? Unlikely. If that was the case, she wouldn’t pretend to be a customer.

He comes down into the hall himself, zapping from floor to floor via his cameras.

You’ve come to the right place. I’m the owner of this company. What seems to be the problem?” Vox asks, reaching out for her phone, and then adds cautiously, watching out for her reaction, “Your majesty”.

first-sinner-of-hell

Lilith had meant this short trip to Hell to be a quiet thing. She had really intended to lay low during these days. The idea had been to just visit her family, check the general state of Hell, go back to Heaven before anyone notices she is gone.

But, of course, that backfired spectacularly.

The thing is, Lilith had never had to lay low in all of the millenia she had been alive. She always walked with her head upstanding, and seven years of exile were not enough to make her forget that.

So the news of her return had spread like adding oil into a fire.

And that had made her nervous. Nervous enough to spill tea on the only source of communication she had with her family once she returned to Heaven. So she might have been a little desesperate to fix it.

But now, as the sinner before her directly calls her 'majesty' in the front hall (where every other sinner already knew), Lilith starts to realize how badly she had fucked up her 'no-one-realizes-im-here' plan.

She stiffled out. "Ex-Majesty." Lilith corrected him. "I'm grateful you have taken time off to come greet me, mister, but I have only come here for a little business." She touched the buttons on her phone. "It won't turn on anymore."

voxpopulidei

"Is there really such a thing as an ex-royalty?" Vox smiled, carefully taking the phone from her hands. "My name is Vox. I will take care of this little incident. Personal approach to clients is our schtick here, at Voxtek. Please, follow me. You shouldn't be waiting in the hall."

He turned around and headed towards one of the rooms, slowing down just to make sure that Lilith comes next to him, simultaneously taking a look at her phone and promptly unscrewing the lid.

"You spilled something on it, didn't you? How many hours ago?"

first-sinner-of-hell

She walked alongside him, looking at him carefully. Vox looked like a business focused man, he probably thought about how to use her status to improve his company. (At least, that's the impression Lilith got of him.)

Lilith didn't really cared about particular sinners. She really cared about improving the general state of Hell and that all sinners had equal rights and their rightful shot at redemption, but that didn't mean she cared about them personally.

"I appreciate it, Mr. Vox." She said, looking with mid curiosity around the place. "It seems you already know, but I will introduce myself. My name is Lilith. A pleasure to meet you."

She looked at her phone, almost letting out a gasp at seeing it come apart so easily. Such a fragile thing, that piece of technology that connected her to her family between realms. "Around three or four hours ago. Tea spilled on it this morning." And the rest of the time she had wandered around Hell looking for a place to fix it.

voxpopulidei

"Oh, everyone in Hell knows and remembers you, your majesty. After all, you fought for us," Vox's voice sounds smooth and velvety. As they come into the separate waiting room, apparently, created for VIP clientele, media overlord gestures to an arm chair. "Give me a moment and I will get back to you"

He can already imagine the headlines. Oh, it could be spinned in so many directions. "Lilith Supports Voxtek"; "The Queen of Hell Applauds an Attempt to Conquer Heaven: "It's better to aim for the stars than succumb to fate", "First Lilith Appearance: The Vees Free Their Queen from the Exile".

But then there's also this stupid annoying Morningstar's brat. With those silly puppy eyes of hers. Who brought Shock back when he got hurt and who came to help with Alastor's mystery. Who wanted to make her mother proud so, so badly that it made Vox sick.

He still will be able to spin this story in any direction he wants. Charlie's not skilled enough to prevent him from doing that. And she will probably spend a day or so crying her eyes out at the happy reunion anyways.

Giving her a little heads-up won't hurt.

One of the hidden cameras silently snaps a photo of Lilith's face and Vox uses his phone to send Charlie the shortest message ever. "Your mother is at V tower. Come.". Then he sends another message, realizing how it could have sounded: "NOT A PRISONER". @charliemorningstarsblog

Good. Now he doesn't owe the princess anything anymore.

He brings out a new model of the phone (with a preset choice of apps, one of which might or might not be a spying one) and places the old phone's sim in it, handing her over to the Lilith.

"You'll need a replacement phone for now. It's on the company," he smiles, looking into Lilith's eyes. "I'll dry up the old model so far. 3-4 hours is not so bad, I think it will be back in service in about a couple of hours. You might need a waterproof case for it"

He pauses and slightly tilts his head to the side.

"Most denizens of the Pride Ring thought that you were dead, your majesty. Or that the Heaven held you hostage. The first rumour is definitely untrue, I can see that. Forgive me for my curiosity, but may I ask, what happened to you?"

first-sinner-of-hell

"What's a waterproof case?" She mumbled, loud enough to hear, but actually just wondering for herself. She might have known what a phone is (after all, they were convenient little things) but Hell developed fast enough to make Lilith get, as any normal sinner would say, 'behind the times'.

To say that she would not notice the new apps (specially not the one intended to spying on her) would be an understatement.

Anyways, she focused on the conversation at head.

Normally, to any normal sinner, she would have dismissed the question with a 'I got busy with a task in Heaven.' or even an 'I'm glad you asked but I would prefer not to answer.'

But Mr. Vox had promised to fix her phone. And, call her sentimental, but Lilith had grown attached to the small thing. Specially when it contained all the (still unread) messages her husband and daughter had sent over these past seven years.

And, truth to be told, every sinner deserved a rightful answer.

She closed her eyes. "Well, Heaven did not take me hostage per se, but it is true that I wasn't able to come down willingly until recently."

"I always hoped for every sinner to have their best chance at redemption, and to improve Hell so that it would be indistinguishable from Heaven. When the opportunity arose, I took the chance to study Heaven up close. That's all there is to it."

This sinner didn't need to know about the true caracteristics of the deal with Heaven, after all.

voxpopulidei

Vox gives Lilith a side eye as she asks about the case.

"A waterproof case is a case that protects the phone from water," he explains flatly, and swears at himself internally when understanding that it sounded pretty cheeky, despite his best efforts.

That's no way to talk to Lilith. He must remember - there is no proof yet that she cannot smite him.

Vox works on her old model of the phone while listening to the answer to his question; little cameras in the corner of the room recording every word she says. He doesn't know whether he'll use those records or not, but keeping them for himself feels useful anyways.

"So that was an educational trip?" he asks carefully. "Or... a vacation of sorts? Were you able to keep updated on what was happening in Hell?"

first-sinner-of-hell

“I see. Thank you for the explanation.” Lilith said back, trying really hard to not sound irked about how cheeky the sinner sounded.

Even if she no longer considered herself the Queen of Hell, Lilith still expected the respect that came with the title. (In that aspect, she had to admit to herself, she was a bit of an hypocrite.)

Lilith was a bit amused at Mr. Vox’s words. “A vacation trip? Hardly. She thought out loud. “No, I wasn’t able to keep up with Hell’s news, aside from what little facts I could hear about. My daughter’s feat of reedeming the first sinner being one of them.”

Which meant that she had not heard at all about the ’Might of Lilith’ incident. If she had heard about it, they would not be having a conversation this cordial, after all.

Lilith rested a closed hand on her cheek, looking at the sinner carefully. “You seem more interested than most sinners would be about my stay in Heaven, Mr…” What was his name?… Ah, yes. “Mr. Vox. Is there a more deep reason other than curiosity?”

Lilith was used to be the one asking the questions. Not the one answering them. But she had to remind to herself to be polite. If the situation came to be, if this sinner for whatever reason felt threatened with her and started to fight back, she had the same power as Lucifer as to smite him. Zero.

Curse

Here I go with another Lilith theory! Today’s topic is the curse against harming sinners that Lucifer has.

And the way I think Lilith also has this curse.

For starters, I believe it would not make any sense if Lilith was able to harm sinners when Lucifer can’t. After all, they fell from Paradise to Hell together. Heaven was punishing them both for the same sin.

Now, the counterargument could be that while Lucifer is an angel, Lilith is just a sinner. But as a sinner, Lilith has already shown she has powers. Less than an angel, of course, but she has them.

The punishment Lucifer has to face in Hell is against his pride. After all, there is no greatest hurt in pride to a divine being than knowing that any person, no matter how strong or no matter their sin, can beat you because you can’t fight back.

If Lilith was able to harm sinners, she would be able to act as his shield, which wouldn’t hurt his pride nearly as much. I would argue that it would hurt even more knowing that the love of your life (at the time at least) is cursed in the same way as well.

And, this is just me taking Charlie’s words as unfiltered truth, but Charlie mentioned that her mother is determined.

I believe Lilith found out that the best way to rebel against Heaven’s punishment is precisely empowering sinners. She has all that power yet she can’t use it to defend herself, so the best way to gain their respect in Hell is to flip the coin and use her powers to empower them instead.

Basically, what I’m saying is that Lilith’s whole plan of sinner’s rebellion is the biggest ‘fuck you’ to Heaven she could think of.

Theories abound about the ways that Alastor could interact with Lilith when she shows up in season 3, but I would like to offer for the group’s consideration the funniest option.

Hell’s Greatest Mom. Alastor who locks eyes with Lilith on minute 1 of her arrival to the Hotel/return into Charlie’s life and just. Internally, to himself, swears her his mortal enemy for a collection of the same and overlapping reasons that he found Lucifer intolerable on sight. And Lilith, who is accustomed to being adored by and doted on by the collective, by sinners at large, only to find that this one creature comprised 50% of claws and teeth and 50% of a snide attitude is both apparently in Charlie’s life to stay and has, unprompted, entered into inexplicable competition with her for her daughter’s ear.

Lilith who returns with thoughtful commentary on the many injustices and oppressions of Heaven and Alastor who literally heckles her from the sidelines by leaning over to whoever happens to be standing next to him and stage-whispering ‘oh, I’ve heard this one before!’

Lilith who is by all accounts and has taught Charlie to be a strong, independent woman, who was the moral and practical backbone of her family rather than the servant of the first Husband that God attempted to give her—which of course means that Alastor goes right ahead and turns the dial towards “domestic and facilitating” around both Charlie and Lucifer until it snaps off, just to needle the Hotel’s newest arrival.

Incidentally this is also the only way that I can see anything resembling radioapple occurring and it occurs because Lucifer is a dumb idiot who just wants affection. Alastor starts being inexplicably nice to him (AND Charlie, but he did that periodically before) in cloyingly domestic ways. He starts packing Charlie a lunch and (non-confrontationally) coaxing Lucifer to put on actual clothes, and playing soft music after hours around the hotel. He does this until Lilith reaches a boiling point of irritation when she comes down to the kitchen one morning to find the Radio Demon in an apron, making pancakes for her husband and daughter, and waits until Charlie has left the room to turn on Lucifer and demand to know why after ten thousand years of refusing to engage with and looking down on sinners in general (sinners like her, like her), he has now farcically claimed one in some sort of deranged parody of domesticity and is PLAYING HOUSE.

Alastor who grins like a demon (which he is) and asks Lilith if she planned to do any housekeeping, this decade, or if her strong preference was to let her family fall into hopeless disrepair

(Alastor who quite literally has to flee the scene of that crime to avoid being seriously injured by a Morningstar that is NOT forbidden to harm sinners, whoops)

ooc. okay so question for the crowd, if alastor was cutting open another demon (god forbid a man has hobbies), would that be dissection or vivisection, or some new third thing?

because to be dissection, the subject has to be dead, and they're all dead technically at least once

but to be vivisection, they have to be alive and they're alive enough to die- and double-die for that matter

is it only dissection in hell if they're double-dead

is it dissection if they are dead (temporary or otherwise) but vivisection if they're capable of response and stimuli, is this a spectrum due to regeneration, at what point does it go from a dissection to a vivisection?

or is the state of being dead and thus in hell an overriding dissection state?

is primo-dissection a thing?

what do we think chat

bit4byte

that’s a good question! Huh! Well, they are dead, yes, certainly. In spirit (ha) they definitely are. But if we want to go with a more cut and dry logical view—dissection isn’t just dead things. It’d be proper a term for the act either way!

As for if a sinner is alive or dead physically, and when they count as alive versus dead— that’s the very fun question! Who knows!!! When does a nervous system wire itself into a person again when pulled apart???? Does the soul feel??? Does any temporary death count as death? If it is always in a state of repair, is it always alive?

I like that perception of it. It is life if it can survive. Maybe every dissection in hell is a vivisection! Sounds like hell. Very fitting.

Of course, without concrete details on how regeneration functions, it’s impossible to know! Sure, we could assume they need to pull themselves together from Velvette’s line about one of her models in season 1, but we also don’t know if that’s something specific to that sinner (Velvette after all could quite literally pull herself back together, being a doll. So. It’s. Really! Hard!!! To know for sure!!!! What she might have been referringto!!!!) it’s totally possible the bodies are fully dead and they just respawn fresh or something. Then it wouldn’t be vivisection…….. I think the former option is more likely but who knows !!!!!!

shkwav

ooc. Ah true, from strict definitions dissection would be the broader term - we do see the model in particular that Velvette is referring to, in passing in the background, but again, it is unclear if it falls under that sinner's unique physiology, is a turn of phrase, or is indicative about the regen process as a general.

Another interesting area is Vox, who is decapitated- is his body alive, does it count as aware without the presence of his brain, can his body be vivisected at this point? Additionally, we know Vox has upgraded his head, which means he has removed it in such a way that he is not hardlocked to the head- which seems to be the situation when Val rips it off - Vox went with the head. To what extent would this carry across to Velvette.

Mmm many questions.

I do think narratively, every dissection in hell being a form of vivisection would be very fitting, and iirc the earlier webcomic work made a point that the biology involved in the afterlife is intended as punitive on some level, so that would align, but whether that is strictly canon is questionable.

first-sinner-of-hell

//I want to add my two cents about Vox and Velvette’s situation!

I personally have the theory that Vox’s real body is pure electricity. This would mean that he is not only able to switch heads, or his body, as he pleases, but basically go inside every electronical device and ‘possess’ it so that’s his new body.

What I’m trying to say is that his demon body actually acts more like a 'vessel’. To kill Vox you would need to destroy the electricity inside.

(I like theorizing for the fun of it, so this theory may not hold much water, to be honest haha)

What little proof I have is that Vox has been shown to be able to go *inside* electrical devices, such as televisions (like in Stayed Gone).

As for Velvette, to kill her, it would be much easier. Her body is made of plastic, like a doll, maybe as a mannequin. And what way is it better to destroy plastic than using fire?

first-sinner-of-hell

Lilith blinked, the sly comment actually taking her by surprise, and then…“Pff~.” She couldn’t help but laugh a little, a light hearted chuckle escaping her lips before she could stop it.

Oh, Luci. You always have.” Lilith answered back, as she booped him on the nose.

She let herself relax in the familiarity of the moment. Here, in the palace, it felt like the time had rewinded until almost eight years ago.

“I see you have taken good care of the palace. It hasn’t changed at all.” Lilith said with a happy tone as she averted her gaze from the fallen angel to take in the sights.

Unlike the park, the palace looked exactly as when she had left. Lilith could feel herself relax, tension and fear she didn’t know she had leaving her shoulders as she spoke. “It feels great to be back.”

Now, call me insane but I have a good idea.

Research has proven that there may be holes around or inside the rings that allow Hellborns to travel around freely, and despite the fact that I haven't figured out about the exact location(s), there might be a chance for us to use these holes or whatever tunnels to move around. I'm sure that there are sinners who have tried using these holes before, and Hellborns can probably help us find them...maybe. However, it seems like that there's some sort of magical barrier blocking us from entering these official entrances...

Well, sinners have their souls bound into the Pride Ring, and winners have their souls bound into Heaven. If a sinner tries to go into Heaven (or viceversa), their soul quite literally would prevent them to leave.

Until recently, redemption was just the theory that a sinner could escape that boundary. But my daughter proved that it was possible.

So why could not it be possible to break the boundary preventing us to visit the other Rings, too?

I haven't done any research in this field, but it is interesting, is it not~?

baxter-the-scientist

Why, it is!! I've heard from other sinners that Hellborn demons are capable of traveling between rings, and if we find out about how they do that, we might just be able to do the exact same thing.

first-sinner-of-hell

My only research has always been about how a sinner can reach redemption (and my daughter has beaten me in the field), but I would love to aid you in whichever way I can. I am quite curious in how is life outside of the Pride Ring, after all.

baxter-the-scientist

Hm, yes...Wait, your daughter is Charlie Morningstar? Since she proved that redemption is possible? So you must be Lilith!! ...it's an honor to be able to eh...talk to you!!

first-sinner-of-hell

Indeed. Do you know my daughter, perhaps? You must be a sinner. Perhaps a guest of her hotel? I am pleased to meet you, little researcher.

baxter-the-scientist

I am Baxter! I am at her hotel for...research purposes, to see if it actually works, since an old colleague of mine succeeded in redemption. And yes, I do know your daughter.

first-sinner-of-hell

Oh, did you know personally the sinner who became a winner? Interesting. I wanted to hear about him. I was hoping to meet him personally in Heaven, but the chance has not yet arose.

I'm pleased to have met you, Mr. Baxter. I hope you succeed in your own redemption, too.

baxter-the-scientist

I used to know the sinner who became a winner. An old colleague of mine, but we have previously split up due to personal issues.

...right. I suppose so.

first-sinner-of-hell

Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't meant to pry into your personal life! I didn't know he was your lo... Ahem. Forgive me. I'm sure you will find someone else, if your heart desires so.

(It seems she might have mistaken the nature of their relationship)

baxter-the-scientist

Huh?? Seems like that there has been a misunderstanding going on. We were colleagues.

first-sinner-of-hell

O-Oooh. I see. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. Do you might know how he had managed to be redeemed, perhaps?

baxter-the-scientist

Not really sure about that. I hear about the fact that he sacrificed himself, but thats it.

first-sinner-of-hell

Interesting. I have to ask around more about him. Maybe self-sacrifice with good intentions is a core quality for redemption.

ask-the-hazbin-therapist

first-sinner-of-hell asked:

*A few soft knocks sound on the door*

May I ask for assistance? I believe this is the place where you can talk about your worries, is it not?

I hope I'm not intruding, of course.

@first-sinner-of-hell

ask-the-hazbin-therapist answered:

Not at all! Why don’t you come in and sit down, would you like a cup of tea?

ohgodohgodohgod I think that’s Lucifer’s ex wife… still wife…?! something?!?!

first-sinner-of-hell

Of course. Do you have black tea, perhaps? Although I'm good with anything, I know that I came here unnanounced.

Lilith sits down, noticing the stiff smile of the therapist. She answers with her own smile.

ask-the-hazbin-therapist

"Yes, of course. Do you take cream or sugar?"

Lumina didn't exactly know Lilith of course, but she knew all too well the trail of heartbreak the First Woman left in her wake. She saw it every day in Lucifer and far too often in Charlie, too.

first-sinner-of-hell

"Sugar it's fine, my dear."

Lilith looked at the demon. "I believe I haven't introduced myself yet. I am Lilith. Your name was Lumina, is it not?" She looked with curiosity at the therapist. "I believe you already know who I am... Regretfully, if I am to be honest."

ask-the-hazbin-therapist

Lumina nodded and began to fix the tea, the steam filling the room was fragrant and comforting.

Meanwhile, her leathery bat wings fluttered restlessly behind her back. She didn't want to be unkind to Lilith. Hell, she barely knew the woman. These feelings weren't exactly fair and between one breath and another Lumina tried to set them aside.

I mean, you were even nice to Lute that one time. You can do this.

Careful not to let the tea slosh, she handed over a cozy mug to Lilith seated on the couch before curling up herself in the armchair facing, her wings curling around her.

"Well, it's my job to reserve judgement," Lumina said, faint teasing in her voice, "Why don't we start with what brought you in today?"

first-sinner-of-hell

Lilith took a moment to savor the tea, letting the comfort of the hot liquid calm her nerves.

"Indeed. Well, I heard about your particular business by chance. I... I am curious if these kinds of talks do help with untangling worries that I have been dragging for decades."

She looked at the tea, the liquid swirling a bit inside the cup, not even wanting to meet her own reflection's eyes.

"I'm sure you already know of the news that I have been gone out of Hell during these last 7 years..."

She said these words with bitterness.

"It wasn't entirely my wish, but I still accepted the deal that got me stuck in Heaven uncommunicated during all this time. So I'm not shifting my blame."

Lilith raised her gaze to meet the demon's eyes, waiting to see her reaction.

ask-the-hazbin-therapist

Lumina pondered that a moment, keeping her own thoughts close and quiet in the back of her mind as she wondered how best to help instead.

"I see, you were estranged from your life here in Hell, and not exactly of your own will," she echoed, making sure she understood it correctly.

Cliche as it was, it was important to ask:

"And how have you been feeling about that?"

first-sinner-of-hell

Lilith let her take a moment to ponder, deciding to really taste the tea she was given. "Delicious." She muttered, more to herself than to compliment the demon.

At the question, she stiffened out a bit, looking at her side. "While not entirely my will, It's not like I was forced to sign the deal... I still had a choice to reject it."

She sighed, her hands trembling a bit at her own words. "But... The core of the question lies somewhere else. The deal made me stuck in Heaven, yes. But the decision to isolated myself from my family... Comes from me and me alone."

ask-the-hazbin-therapist

Lumina watched as Lilith contended with the nuances of her past, her composure ever so slightly rattled.

After hanging around Charlie and Lucifer often enough at the hotel - and having both of them in for therapy sessions themselves from time to time - Lumina had more than once thought about what Lilith must be like.

Neither the king or princess were terribly forthcoming with describing how Lilith was, but the scars of her absence were all but apparent. Lumina was ashamed to admit that she had expected the Queen of Hell to be apathetic, cold-hearted, even. Caring was honestly one of the last things she'd expected.

"That... must have been a difficult choice to make," she said evenly.

first-sinner-of-hell

Lilith evaded the demon gaze when she said those last words. "It wasn't."

And that's what made it hurt so much. "The deal I made with Adam was, on paper, a really good one that wouldn't repeat itself in years. Centuries. Millenia. I didn't doubt it. I..."

She settled down the cup before it showed signs of trembling in her grasp. "I did it without consulting it with my family. And before I knew it, I was in Heaven. I left without saying goodbye, without explaining them what I was about to do... Because they might have holded me back."

ask-the-hazbin-therapist

Ah, there it was. The woman who coldly left behind her family and her people without a word of farewell. Lumina resisted the urge to ask her if she supposed it was worth it, if she even knew about the hurt she would be causing, then or now.

"You worried that they might stop you," Lumina repeated. "You didn't want to have that difficult discussion with them. What do you think would have happened if you had?"

All while you have been holding them back. They were just waiting all this time for you to come back and love them again.

first-sinner-of-hell

"Well, indeed. They would have stopped me. I knew them just that much. But I needed... I needed to go up there and investigate about winners, about how a soul is allowed to Heaven once they die...

She took a sip of her tea, almost cold by now, but her face did not show any signs of it. She stared at the therapist with her eyes full of determination as she told her story.

"Down here we weren't making any progress. Worse, even. Hell was becoming sure they were stuck like this for all their eternal life."

"I wanted to give them hope."

She stopped. She stopped because the real question lied somewhere else. The real question about why she had come here, asking for help. The real question about why everyone looks at her with eyes full of disappointment.

Why did you leave, Lilith?!

Why did you leave them alone?!

She took a moment to answer. The silence became full of tension as she mused her words in her mind. And, never leaving her gaze out of the demon, she spoke.

"... And yet, looking at the messages my family left after the deal was made... It was mortifying. I felt like I had betrayed them. Because I did."

"And after time went on and on, the missing calls and messages accumulated and... I didn't know how to face them anymore."

There it was. The open wound. Right in the open. A tiny wound that had opened 7 years ago and had just grown big enough to tear an entire family apart.

ask-the-hazbin-therapist

And that gaping chasm was of course what gouged into the heart of the matter. It wasn't about what she had done and chosen and not necessarily why.

It all came down to what could be done about it now.

"Do you find communicating with them still difficult?" Lumina asked. "Or is it easier now that you can speak face to face?"

first-sinner-of-hell

Lilith shook her head, leaving the cup on the table, now empty.

"No, I haven't been able to speak with them face to face. At most, I have sent a few messages that... Well. They are mostly 'how are you' or 'I'm happy you are doing well."

Hardly a conversation at all.

"I... I'm still scared of knowing what their actual feelings will be. If they will resent me..... And the thing that scares the most is that I regret nothing of what I did. I find it was absolute necessary for progress."

She took a bit of a breath.

"Even if the final cost was myself and them."

ask-the-hazbin-therapist

Lumina wondered a moment at that. She could only imagine how fragile the situation must feel for the all three of them, to be so close and yet so far.

"Well, tell me this then, and I'm genuinely asking although it might sound a little flippant..."

Her crimson eyes found Lilith's, holding them firmly, but not unkindly in place.

"Do you intend to keep them at this distance forever?"

Because they've missed you more than you could possibly imagine.

But of course, Lumina couldn't divulge something like that.

first-sinner-of-hell

She stilled at the words of the demon. It wasn’t often that the ex-queen of Hell was rendered speechless, but this was one of those moments.

Lilith mused at Lumina’s words for a minute, and finally… She shook her head. “I could never.”

Lilith took a moment before she continued talking.

“I want thing to be just like they were like before I was gone. But I know that’s selfish of me.”

She averted her gaze from the kind demon’s eyes.

“I want to tell them that I’m sorry. But how can I say it when I don’t regret leaving?”

She did regret not telling them and not contacting them during all these years. But that was different.
