"I'm not anti-recovery or pro-recovery; I'm recovery-neutral! I'm pro-choice! It's up to you whether you want to recover or not!"

Here's the problem: By accepting the conceptual framework "recovery", you are not being "neutral."

What you're saying here is: "I accept the premise that non-normative ways of being are inferior, diseased, intrinsically disordered. Changing to a more normative way of being is objectively an improvement, a restoration of health, a correction of a problem. But! I support your right to choose! It's up to you whether you do the objectively correct thing of Becoming Restored to Health, or whether you do the objectively inferior thing of Staying Sick and Wrong. I'm Neutral. I'm pro-choice. I'm not like those extremists on either side."

I support every human's absolute individual autonomy over xyr own body and mind. If you want to change something about yourself -- anything from getting a tattoo to changing the way your brain works -- that is your body, your mind, your life, your choice. I support your right to do that.

But when you conceptualize that change as "recovery," you are no longer talking about Your Personal Choice. You are talking about Remediation of Disease, as a concept. You are giving credence to pathologization. That is not a "neutral" framework.

I've mentioned this before, but I see a lot of parallels between intentional weight loss in the context of fat liberation and "recovery" in the context of Mad/neurodivergent/paraphile/queer/etc liberation.

I do not believe that intentional weight loss is, in and of itself, fatphobic or sizeist. Doing what you want to your own, personal, individual body is morally neutral. It's your body. Do what you want with it. If you decide, of your own free will, "I wish my body had less mass, so I'm going to intentionally choose to reduce my caloric intake in the hope that my body will consume its own fat stores and thereby shrink itself. I am aware that this is statistically unlikely to succeed in the long term, but I am making an informed choice to risk the attempt anyway" -- then by all means, I support your choice. Your body, your mind, your life, your choice. That choice is not, in and of itself, harming anyone else.

But the minute you conceptualize that choice as "I'm Doing The Right Thing and Getting Healthy and Treating My Chronic Illness of Obesity," then you are no longer talking about a personal choice. You are now talking about the pathologization of body size. You are Doing A Sizeism -- not because of the choice you made about your own body, but because of the conceptual framework you chose to couch it in.

I support your right to tattoo your eyeballs. I do not support framing eyeball-tattooing as "recovery," because I do not accept the premise that un-tattooed eyeballs are a disease.

And the same is true of, e.g., neurodivergences, "mental illnesses," and paraphilias. If you decide, "I don't like the fact that I'm exclusively sexually attracted to cartoon characters with tentacles. I wish I were sexually attracted to real-life humans in meatspace instead. I want to train myself to stop being attracted to cartoon tentacles and start being attracted to meatspace humans," then I say, okay, fine. Great! Do what makes you happy! Your body, your mind, your life, your choice.

But as soon as you call that "recovery," we have a problem.

What does it mean that I thought this post was about recovery from eating disorders (the restrictive kind) until the 6th paragraph? For the first chunk of this post, I honestly thought it was more unhinged pro-ana content than I've seen in a hot minute. But it's about binge-eating and obesity, so "recovery" is a slur. :/

It is. It's about "recovery" from anything pathologized by the society you live in -- ways of eating, sexuality, neurodivergences, etc.

One of those goofy maid animes, except the viewpoint character isn't the hapless master or mistress of the house, but a regular-ass janitor who ended up on this crew due to a paperwork mixup at the temp agency and can't figure out what the fuck is wrong with her co-workers.

When discussing the wage gap, it's important to take a multi-faceted approach, as trying to understand it through simply "paid less" gives you a rather incomplete answer. Feminist have been talking about this for ages so this is not a new conversation in the slightest.

Men working the same jobs in the same companies as women are paid more, on average about 15c more to the dollar. In other words, for every cis man's 1 dollar, cis women make about 85c.

However, cis women are also often ignored for promotions in favor of lesser qualified, less tenured cis men. This widens the wage gap significantly, because it means while cis men have a lot of upward mobility, cis women are often stuck in entry level or mid level positions and never make it further.

Additionally, it is less likely for a cis woman to be hired for particular jobs that are considered male-dominated, and male-dominated jobs are often the higher paying jobs. This means that cis women are often denied even a foot in the door let alone equal pay.

Further, cis women are also frequently skipped over when applying to college or other post-secondary schools, which means they are often denied the qualifications needed in order to even have a chance at applying to that cushy STEM job anyway.

AND families are often less willing to spend the money on a woman's college than a man's, as are banks which may subsidize a loan.

AND girls are often discouraged from habits and hobbies that may develop into job skills for these higher paying jobs, while boys are often encouraged in these habits and hobbies, leading to girls being less likely to even pursue higher education in the first place.

So when it comes to the claim about trans men being favored in wages, one also has to break it down in a similar way. Trans men often- but not always- experience all of these barriers to employment as well as transphobia and queerphobia as systems to add to the misogyny referenced above.

So to say a trans man makes more than a cis woman, you have to ask how that could come to pass. Does he pass really well and no one knows he's transgender because his papers are all changed? Then yes, he will almost assuredly be treated like a cis man. But in this same company, do you believe that the moment a trans man thinks to himself "maybe I'm a boy" is immediately handed a promotion and a raise for being such a wonderful male worker? Do you think Patricia can go to her boss and tell her actually his pronouns are he/him and he's going as Patrick now, and Patrick's boss is like "oh shit I underpaid this clearly manliest of mans whoops"

It should be blindingly obvious that the wage gap is something even bigger than "paid less", because to be completely honest there are so many facets to this.

Guy in red is an artist ai guy is not

I just want to point out that the guy ate a bunch of images, chewed them out, and spat out an unrecognizable slop - literally what ai models do.

This is poetry to me and whatever the goal of original art piece was it is now elevated to heavens.
