If you want to become the best version of yourself you need to:

1. Take ownership of your actions. Good, bad, past mistakes and past wins. Everything. Figure out who you really are, not who you think you are.

2. Change your habits to support your growth. What got you here is not going to get you there. Your actions need to align with the version of yourself you want to become. This doesn’t mean adding to your current habits, it means replacing them.

3. Make health & happiness a priority. Self love shows on how you prioritize your health and your well being. You can’t make your dreams come true if you don’t put yourself first. They depend on you.

4. Learn to say no & develop boundaries. Stand up for yourself. Don’t get caught up with distractions. Not everyone will be able to go where you are going. It is okay to say no to things that do not align with the things you want. Break the cycle.

5. Surround yourself with positive people. Energy is important. You become like the people you hang out with the most. It’s scientifically proven. Surround yourself with people who motivate you. Who are positive. Who live the life you are aspiring to. People you can learn from. If they do not add value to your life, they are holding you back from the best version of you.

turned everything I have installed off to see what pure vanilla tumblr looks like right now and man. I just can't fathom letting your website look like this

silly haha intrusive marketing gimmicks like having the one piece clown stuck to the page is not a bit you get to do when I have to have adblock & two different other peripheral extensions installed to be able to navigate the front page

peachdeluxe

if there’s anyone following me who is using desktop tumblr this way please do yourself a favor and get xkit rewritten (installation links and instructions for chrome and firefox in link) and this script that returns the UI to the old one (installation instructions also in link), along with ublock origin or some other adblocker. I still like using tumblr, but I forget that I have been using it with extension scripts installed for the past almost-decade for extremely obvious quality of life improvements because the site barely works unmodified (seriously, how has xkit’s one-click reblog not been implemented yet)

i have been seeing some staff responding to responses to layout change as if it’s solely people digging in their heels about something they’re used to being ~different now~, but I seriously do not understand how this is acceptable from a ux or accesibility standpoint

Hey, you! Yeah, you with the cool neocities!

You're doing great! Really love what you've done with the place so far. Now here's something important moving forward. If you are making a neocities - especially if you are doing so with the motivation to fight back against Web 3.0 and reclaim the web as a space for individual users instead of for companies - please, keep the following in mind:

An inaccessible web is not a free web.

Repeat after me: An inaccessible web is not a free web.

Reblogging but I want to specifically point out the WAVE tool, which probably should have been on the top of this list (instead of the very bottom). I think it's probably the easiest way to identify and fix accessibility issues because it points out issues and provides and explanation on what's wrong and how to fix it with links to the WCAG.

chrome users, your browser is about to start targeting advertising for you

have fun

this does not necessarily apply to chrome-based browsers but it very well can. ymmv

bogleech

Click here to get firefox, and once you install it, firefox will ask if you want to import all of your logins, bookmarks and settings from Chrome or whatever else you browsed with.

Then go here to add firefox’s best adblocker:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

captainbritish

Please do not use AdBlock Plus, they sold out years ago and allowed advertisers to "whitelist" certain ads.

uBlock Origin is the correct "best adblocker"

However, there is also AdNauseam which is built atop uBlock and will silently click on every ad it blocks so you can fuck with advertising companies. Essentially, this poisons whatever information profile they've built up on you. AdNauseam was even banned on the Google Web Store in 2017, so you can tell it works and that Google fucking HATES IT.

i know we're all sick of self-care being a marketing tactic now, but i don't think a lot of us have any other concept of self-care beyond what companies have tried to sell us, so i thought i'd share my favorite self-care hand out

Now THAT’S a self care resource! If you’ve gotten distracted by capitalism’s appropriation of “self-care” and watering the meaning down to nothing this is a super helpful guide to cut through the bullshit.

You're more right than you know! Did you know the current state of 3DS homebrew makes it so that:

You can install and make your 3DS hacked with about an hour of work.

There is no risk of bricking

It is 100% undetectable by Nintendo

You can play the games online

You can download and install any 3DS, DS, or GBA game and run them perfectly (the 3ds still has the GBA hardware in it!)

You can emulate the Playstation 1 on a new 3ds!

And an absurd amount more.

I've actually made a guide about what to do after you homebrew your 3ds so you can really understand how much nonsense you can do.

You can find it here! It's still early, but if you have any questions or comments, I've left comments enabled so I can get feedback.

Happy hacking!

OI OI.

IF YOU'RE GOING THROUGH THIS PERSON'S GOOGLE DOC ON WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH A HOMEBREWED 3DS, THEN IT'S ASSUMING YOU ALREADY HACKED IT

What the court ruling means for Internet Archive

Internet Archive (archive.org) offers 39 million+ books to be loaned online within your browser for free. They stay away from putting newly released books in the online library, but it's still an absolutely massive resource of for books that span decades and centuries.

In the past couple of years, though, four major publishing houses brought Internet Archive to court, alleging that the lending program infringed copyright and resulted in losses (there was no evidence of the latter but anyway). The lower court proceedings concluded last Friday, and even though Internet Archive intends to appeal the decision, here's what the ruling was (outlined here):

  • Out-of-print books and books not available in electronic format will continue to be available for lending.
  • Internet Archive is allowed to keep expanding its preservation of books, and they do not have to delete the books they have already scanned.
  • Extracts from books that were referenced in Wikipedia articles will continue to be displayed.
  • The rest of Internet Archive, including the Wayback Machine which preserves over 800 billion web pages, will remain functional.

Nobody's going to jail. This isn't the Library of Alexandria all over again. Phew.

However, Internet Archive is now required to remove books that are currently in print or which can be bought electronically from their library. Many books will be removed soon.

If you're worried about this and had some books you really wanted to read, I have no idea what convenient, safe and expansive pirate website you can use that has most of Internet Archive's, plus z-library's, Sci-hub's and Libgen's books in one place so you can build your own personal library. No idea. Or go to Internet Archive ASAP to get your last chance to read them there.
