Am I alone here???
Like, maybe I am alone in this opinion and all, but I loved season 8. I didn´t expect anything (which I think is always the key to really enjoining something) and I was happy. There were great love stories, and for me at least it was clear that Allura wasn´t settling for Lance or anything but rather trying, and yeah it was more from Lance that from Allura. BUT DAMN IF I COULD READ HER MIND I WON'T KNOW WHAT ALLURA WAS THINKING, because she dosesn´t wear her emotions. And yeah I hoped for Klance and all, but after all the drama about it I would have been surprised if the pulled that out. And people begin like “THE KILLED THE BLACK ONE” She sacrificed herself. She is a damn role model. She isn´t dead and forgotten, she isn´t even really dead. She is the most influential Woman and Person in the whole of Voltrons Reality. I think every kid has her to look up to. She died for something she believed in, something good. And she obviously lived on. The message literally is: “Be brave and you will be remembered.” And that message is frecking great!
Furthermore! GAY ALIENS who makeup, and give you hope to work on your relationships.
Shiro is goddamn happy and super duper explicitly GAY!! Like yeaahh! And maybe it wasn´t what you wished for, but that is how war is. You find happiness in the scraps. (And I don´t care that their relationship wasn´t like build up or anything, because it was over a year later, and in the middle of the last season taking time for that would have been just annoying! Especially since Shiro is clearly more concentrated on the mission, and would be like “Not now feelings, later!”)
I always thought that some people overanalyzed the show. More so because it is clearly a kids show. But saying it was queerbaiting is a lie. People love to see what they want to see, and yeah maybe it was to heavily hinted.
Still, I loved Voltron as a show. I loved the animation, I loved the Voice actors, I loved the characters, and I loved the portrayal of war.
This was one part a story about war. And I think it nailed that in a way that kids could understand.
And on the other part was the themes of chosen family, teamwork and friendship. How one can bond over loses and similarities and differences. How when you find the right people you find your family, and you would be willing to give everything to them. And some of them you love in one way and some in another way. It showed that not all friendships are the same and have to be the same (what most shows kind of ignore!!!). It showed how it is possible to have more than one family.
I am sorry for this rant. I just see so much more in this show and can´t be quiet. I am not saying it is without criticism but please, not everything is perfect but this show conveys its themes and messages damn well! Please see more than what you think the show is and try to see the show. If you don´t like it then please just take what you like and make your own version without ruining it for the people who liked it. Some of your claims are just a carved version of the event and a vision from outside the show itself. It is not was Voltron is.
So yeah.. Be kind and try to enjoy.
