Got a temu ad for a shirt that says "Sober Life" in the Pornhub font. I am sober and I watch porn but I'm just amazed at what a fucking loser that sweatshirt would make you look like. Nobody rolls w that guy

While I think more people have heard the story of Minnesota’s continued possession of a Virginia Battle Flag that was seized by the 1st Minnesota Volunteers on July 3rd, 1863. What I think is important to also know is on July 2nd, 1863, they held a gap in the union line despite hugely outnumbered and experiencing an 82% casualty rate. This remains the highest single day casualty rate experienced by any surviving US military unit ever. The men and teenage boys of the 1st Minnesota Volunteers walked into certain death to bring Democracy to the United States. They sang “As He died to make men holy let us die to make men free” and then died gruesome, bloody deaths. That’s why we have a country and why they still have that flag.

its actually crazy how much local art events and other potentially interesting stuff i completely miss out on just because the orgs all post on instagram and facebook only. two standouts among the worst fucking platforms in the world with the most egregious ui and slop saturation, so dogshit that id be unable to use them regularly even if i wanted to. stop it you all. get on tumblr or something

even orgs and collectives that used to have proper websites of their own now just put all their updates on fb and ig. stop! stop it! youre making me feel like an old geezer! ok well old geezers nowadays are very much on facebook... an ancient geezer. youre making me feel like A Ancient Woman

passing thought at work: by-now-a-cult-classic "missionary eaten by jaguar" by Noe Leon (from 1967; Leon was from Caribbean coast of Colombia) as inversion of earlier colonial-era depictions. considered that piece by Guaman Poma (circa 1535 to 1616, who was Quechua, from Viceroyalty of Peru), seen here with a person, presumably Indigenous/Andean, besieged by "beasts" (including jaguar?) representing a notary, a parish priest, judicial figures, and other Spanish colonial administrators.

Laughing at this again today. My piece of shit wuppyog?!

The group chat officially deemed me an “eccentric” just because I’m doing an Argonian ichthyologist play-through of Skyrim rn where my character is writing a thesis on Cyrodilic Spadetails and I shared the character’s hypothetical research folder that I created to help with my immersion in the role.

Like sorry I take the RP in RPG seriously but how else would I get into the headspace of a character who is only slaying dragons to sell their bones and fund research that will hopefully be published in the Tamriel Journal of Limnetic Science??

I feel like it's a really common trope to have a non-biological entity disgusted by squishy bio things like secretions and flesh and stuff but. Wouldn't they utterly lack revulsion to those things? The reason we are repulsed by things like blood and shit and corpses is because they are intimately connected to our bodies, are uncomfortable reminders of our animal mortality, can be vectors of harm, or are a signal of danger. A being made of energy, metal, or plastic does not have the same sympathetic connections to these things that we do, except as a kind of intellectual sympathy for what people they care about fear. Disgust is repulsive, and you can only repel something if it's close to you. I think the things that viscerally repel a non-biological mind are not going to be biological.

Hmm... Maybe not as extreme as a corpse, but if you handed someone composed of mostly metal an extremely corroded piece of copper, I could see them reacting like you just handed them a very moldy orange.

To reach "handed a decomposing roadkill squirrel" level, maybe give them something with identifiable parts similar to what is in their body, like corroded circuit boards, batteries, wire connectors. That's a more direct reminder of mortality.
