Just Good Omens. Stuck here like everybody else...

This incorrect quote resonated with me.

The drawing started as a joke, but now I can’t stop thinking about Crowley who has a desk in hell and paperwork to do, but he absolutely hates being in hell and hates officework even more. He puts it off as long as he possibly can, years or decades, usually to the point of a higher-up crackling their way into his radio program, threatening to come up to earth and drag his ass down into hell themselves.

But when he DOES go, he takes an ever-increasing determination to be as annoying as possible. He is the entire Malicious Compliance subreddit in a single being. He has to go shuffle papers around, but he’s not going to do so quietly. He emails everyone in hell (any demon who doesn’t use or understand computers gets a paper memo on their desk automatically) about pretty much everything he’s doing and how he’s doing it. He chugs coffee, red bull, and whisky the entire time. He basically turns every project or paper into an opportunity to annoy every demon in hell for the crime of making him come down to deal with it.

Each time, he ends up able to put the whole thing off for another couple decades, because nobody in hell actually wants him there anymore. But even with the other demons avoiding putting things on Crowley’s desk, he’ll inevitably have to come back down again at some point. But at least he has the courtesy to announce to all of hell when he has arrived… even if it means Beelzebub has to deal with a flood of completely unrelated field work requests from every demon in hell.

Reblogging because it’s topical.

at the risk of being cringe with everything going on — this week, the last six months, the past five years — i keep thinking about that one quote from the great gatsby

“they were careless people…they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”

it’s just every day now, huh.

I made a timeline for the Crowley & Aziraphale events in Good Omens seasons 1 & 2.

I put it on the archive, too, if that's easier to navigate for people. The links to the extra sources are there too.

Did I set out to make a timeline? No. No i did not. I was meant to be doing laundry and other various adult responsibilities. Just sat down to double check something for a moment. JUST A MOMENT. and now here we are. two days later with a detailed and (hopefully) accurate sequence of events for Aziraphale and Crowley .

Enjoy!

UPDATE - I edited the entry for the Garden of Eden, as I couldn't verify the source for Aziraphale getting demoted. Corrected Page 1 below:

Good Omens Fan Fic Friday Recs - (16 Jan 2026) COVID Fics

COVID was horrific. So many people died. Communities struggled. Businesses failed. And yet, when things are terrible, there are always humans who rise to the occasion. They look out for their neighbors, expand their creativity, and live their truest values. COVID also affected fandoms and Good Omens fans created some wonderful stories that explored the pandemic through new creative lenses. Here are a few I appreciated.

Let's start with a classic written during the lockdowns, Fancy Patter on the Telephone (G) by @hotcrosspigeon. Despite Crowley telling Aziraphale he planned to sleep until July, the angel can't resist getting in touch. Featuring flirty, LOL dialogue that you can absolutely hear being spoken by Michael Sheen and David Tennant, this story is worth a visit years after the lockdowns ended.

Next up we have another canon-universe story, Lockdown Protocols: Plausible Deniability (T) by @masnadies. Aziraphale reconsiders telling Crowley to stay away during the lockdown, but before he can think of a good excuse to invite the demon over, he's poisoned by Hastur and needs actual care. Who'd have thought five years later, the lockdowns would still be inspiring writers? I love this fandom!

In Lockdown Texts (G) by @klikandtuna, Crowley teaches Aziraphale how to text to stave off boredom during the COVID lockdowns. I laughed so hard at Aziraphale's guesses for what LMAO means that my dog scampered down the hall and hid under the bed.

The aching in my heart (T) by @sevdrag has Crowley waking after his lockdown nap to find seventeen messages (from guess who?) on his antique Ansaphone. They're a sweet description of the effects of COVID and their relationship in very few words. Let's take a little break before moving onto Human AUs.

This fic inspired the category. It's Waking Up Slow (E) by the_moonmoth. After being exposed to COVID at work, Aziraphale flees to the country to isolate. But after he accidentally makes contact with a handsome stranger on a walk, he invites him back to his cottage to isolate together, as one does. This is a horny little tale that stuck in my mind thanks to the writer giving Aziraphale nipple piercings. Yep, writers, write what you want. You never know what will stick with a reader.

In Bubble (NR) by Jackie Thomas, Aziraphale comes to the aid of his new neighbor, Crowley, who is suffering from COVID. Once he recovers, the pair form a bubble. It's the story that feels most familiar to me from the pandemic. Finally, I'll end with two fics that address the aftermath of the pandemic. In Accidentally in Love (T) by @wildespyder/spyglassez, Aziraphale becomes isolated while suffering from the effects of Long COVID. He advertises for safe company and ends up making new friends and finding even more than that in this asexual love story. A Smell Can't Be Ineffable (M) by @thinkinginscripts tells the story of Crowley getting help from Aziraphale in an attempt to recover from losing his sense of smell (and taste). The writer's sensory descriptions that are part of Aziraphale's method are beautifully written. And that's a wrap on another Fan Fiction Friday. Make sure you never miss one of my idiosyncratic themes by following me. You can find all my recs on the pinned post on my page. Please encourage the wonderful writers and artists in the fandom by subscribing, bookmarking, leaving kudos and comments, and by reblogging their chapter post announcements. It strengthens our community when we support each other and encourages people to keep creating.

I've only read A Smell Can't Be Ineffable, but I loved that one! Adding the others to my reading list.

Starved for (your) company (T) is on this theme and also very good!

No really, you should read it.

"It is the color of bad news delivered with bureaucratic indifference"

And;

"The color of a person's thoughts while ignoring war"

And;

"The color of the humming sound that an overhead flourescent light makes in a disillusioning job"

And;

"It is, however, the color of the discussions on the subject, as well as the color of the awareness of the context from which those discussions inevitably spring"

And;

"It is the color of a corporate apology"

And;

"When the decision was revealed, I knew I would never own a house."

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

Here are the 2024 vaccine recommendation schedules. They’ve already been wiped from the cdc site. Save them and share widely, especially to your friends with kids.

Hi!!! One of my parents got meningitis when I was a kid.

They were in the hospital for nearly a month, the rest of us were all placed in medical quarantine, there were several points we thought they were gonna die, and even though they survived, it was a SUPER close call and they lost about two years of memories from the ensuing brain damage.

Like… a two-uear-long cookie-cutter pocket of thoughts and memories went missing right out of their brain. It’s an inflammation of the brain that cooks it alive.

I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A VACCINE.

I WILL BE GETTING IT.
