General | Posted a month agoI'm back from my 1 week hiatus, which means that the new ToonThick is just a week away from being launched! I will be posting teasers for the new ToonThick logo over on Bluesky, Cara and Telegram.
Before New ToonThick however, something else is happening the day before...
...the opening of the Metro Tunnel in Melbourne, this Sunday 30th November.
My focus will mostly be on the Metro Tunnel, and nothing else; not even Zootopia 2!Hiatus from 17-23 November
General | Posted a month agoI will be on hiatus from social media for the next week, starting this Monday. And unlike my previous hiatus in August/September, this will extend to my entire presence on the internet.
I will not be active on Bluesky, Cara, FurAffinity, Newgrounds, Telegram, Ko-fi or Discord for a whole week. I want to take a week-long break from social media as part of the ToonThick revamp.
During this time I will temporarily deactivate my Bluesky account, and once again disable my FurAffinity account, reactivating both accounts a week later.
As for YouTube: I've gone ahead and privated all videos on my channel, and removed my description and all imagery from my channel. I'm still unsure about deleting the channel altogether, but I do want to get off YouTube before the site's official 20th anniversary next month (20 years since it opened to the public). I hate to think that YouTube could do more dodgey things, let alone revive Rewind.
As of right now, the only YouTube channel of mine with public content is the one that's been abandoned for 6 years: "FangRail". This channel, along with the FangRat-era Google account and everything else associated with it, will be deleted on Friday 28th November. If you want to see old transport videos of mine, you have less than 2 weeks to do so before everything is deleted!
Before that however, I will be on hiatus for a week from this Monday, Australian Eastern Daylight Time. I not only want to take a break, but also get my anxiety under control. Over recent weeks, it's been out of control.
I'll still be here tomorrow, but then I will have a week off. This means that I will miss the 3rd anniversary of ToonThick on FurAffinity (18th November) and the ToonThick Alley Telegram channel (20th November).

General | Posted 3 months agoThe character started life simply as a humanoid monster in 2013, then it became a raccoon in October 2019, then a tanuki, a rat, a human-rat, a wombat, and then the first of my own animal species; the "anthromutant".
About the "anthromutant" bit: while Slingy Boombox was the first, he will also be one of only 3. I've decided today that I will retire the "anthromutant", and will turn Slingy into a raccoon like he was 6 years ago. In fact, I've already made a new drawing of Slingy as a raccoon!
It makes more sense for my main antagonist Slingy to be a raccoon, since his animal sidekicks Harry and Stunky are also raccoons.
As for "Seth": the one-off character made for the 10th anniversary of my DeviantArt handle "anthromutants", will indeed be a one-off. The said character is now retired, and his name will be given to the cat character known previously as "Stacks".

General | Posted 3 months agoStarting today, I will be posting a number of drawings from past drawing challenges I've done during the month of October (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2024), on Newgrounds.
Much of these drawings are already on Bluesky, Cara, here on FurAffinity and on Telegram. In addition to posting these drawings on Newgrounds, I will be posting them on Ko-fi as well, with additional stuff from these periods.
On that note: while I successfully did my own October drawing challenge last year (ToonThick-tober), I've decided that I won't be doing any more such challenges, at least during October.
If you have the idea of doing a drawing challenge for October, I suggest finding an alternative to Inktober like I did in 2020 and 2024 given that Jake Parker (the creator of Inktober) is an asshole!
After all, "October" isn't a registered trademark.

General | Posted 3 months agoYep, today is the day I would've originally come out of hiatus, since The Bad Guys 2 is officially out over here today. But I saw this movie 12 days ago, in the first round of advance screenings, which allowed me to come out of hiatus up to 2 weeks early.
If there were no preview screenings whatsoever and I was forced to wait the full 48 days, then I would most likely be at the local cinema right now, seeing The Bad Guys 2, so I could then return to full activity in the art/furry community this evening. If not today, then tomorrow afternoon or at the very latest, early Saturday morning. But I don't have to scramble, because I saw The Bad Guys 2 on September 6. I do plan on seeing it for a second time this weekend however.
In the end, I waited 36 days for The Bad Guys 2. If I'm not mistaken, this was the same amount of days between release dates in Mexico and the US for the first Bad Guys movie!
Which brings me to another thing. Before I came out of hiatus, I started using Firefox as my main web browser, on both desktop and on my phone. I wanted to do this before I came out of hiatus, given I wanted a change after being loyal to Chrome for 14 years. I still use Chrome sometimes, but I want to phase out my use of that browser, as well as Google services as a whole. Ideally, the only Google services I would need to use are Android itself and Google Maps.
Back to my hiatus. If it did last 48 days, it would be the same amount of days I was off social media for in early-mid 2017. There was everything I went through in 2014; the DA "core" episode in 2015, and; this period where I wasn't in a good way, to the point I considered disappearing from social media completely. There were also similar periods in 2021 and 2022, but I pulled through.
Finally: whether or not I went on any hiatus, I would like to wish ArtDexo2000, a very happy birthday!

General | Posted 5 months agoIn just over 24 hours, I will be going on hiatus from a number of sites for at least 7 weeks, to avoid spoilers for The Bad Guys 2, which won't come out in Australia until September 18 (just before the start of VIC and QLD spring school holidays).
Like I said in my previous journal, I will be disabling my FurAffinity account, and deactivating my Bluesky account during this time, and reactivating both accounts in the second half of September, when I've seen The Bad Guys 2 at least once (insert middle finger at Universal AU).
However, I'm making amendments to what I have planned.
Whilst I won't be active on Bluesky, Cara and FurAffinity for at least the next 7 weeks, I will continue to use Newgrounds and Ko-fi. With Newgrounds in particular, I was recently scouted, meaning any new art I post on there will now be featured in the art portal. With Ko-fi, I will continue to build my gallery on there, which is free for everyone to see. I will spend my time posting old arts of mine during August and September, going as far back as "anthromutants" and earlier. And of course, you can buy me a coffee on there if you want!
I've also decided to retain my Telegram account, but I will not be using that platform at all for the next 7 weeks. I can't risk any movie spoilers! You can find me on Signal (ToonThick.11) if you want to chat with me.
I'm also on YouTube, but I don't use it that much. If I made an animation that's good enough to be posted on YouTube, I'll post it on there. Otherwise, I'm only subscribed to 3 channels (including AJMarekArt).

In just under a week, I will be leaving all social media for at least 7 weeks, to avoid spoilers for The Bad Guys 2; a movie that I will not be able to see until the second half of September, because it won't be out in Australia until September 18.
Back when the release dates were announced last November, I had the theory that I would have to wait until the start of spring school holidays in VIC and QLD to see The Bad Guys 2 (a sequel to a movie adaptation of a series of children's books published by Scholastic), and my theory is 100% correct.
If you remember me as ClunkTheSkunk on Twitter, the first Bad Guys movie came out in Australia 22 days before the US (because it was smack bang at the start of the Easter school holiday period over here). Even so, it came out in Mexico and other places up to 2 weeks prior to that, and I politely reminded people not to spoil the movie. This time however, I have to wait 48 days!
I could stay on social media, but I would end up having to mute countless words and tags that would relate to The Bad Guys, and that would take too much time. The much easier thing to do is just vanish, and that's what I'm going to do.
I will be on hiatus from social media from July 31 to at least September 20. I'm not taking any chances until I see The Bad Guys 2 at least once.
My FurAffinity account will be disabled during this period. My Bluesky will also be deactivated temporarily. Other sites I'm on will be left as they are.
This hiatus will also mark the end of my presence on Telegram, after nearly 9 years.

General | Posted 6 months agoI'm writing this journal to let you know that I will probably have to disappear from all social media at the end of this month. The reason for this is to avoid spoilers for The Bad Guys 2.
If I'm not mistaken, for much of my audience, that movie comes out at the end of this month. For me however, I will most likely have to wait until the second half of September to see it; only because it would tie in better with the commencement of the Spring school holiday period over here.
I could mute, I could really mute! I can do anything I can to prevent myself from seeing any posts relating to The Bad Guys 2. But based on past experiences, it would be of little use. There's a certain point after the release date of any movie, where people are allowed to give away spoilers, since most people would have gone and seen it by then. That would well and truly happen before September with The Bad Guys 2.
I had the theory that I, in a location where animated features are usually released before or during school holiday periods (the only ever exception to this that I know of was the first Angry Birds movie), would have to wait until at least September 18 to see The Bad Guys 2. If this is correct, I will have no choice but to go on hiatus from all social media for at least the next 7 weeks, starting July 31.
My Bluesky will be temporarily deactivated, my FurAffinity will be disabled, and my other accounts will be left as they are. I would also end my ArtFight early.
I would also end my presence on Telegram for good, after nearly 9 years. Telegram at this point is mirroring Twitter.
So this is what I have planned. If I do indeed have to wait at least 7 weeks for The Bad Guys 2, I will have to leave social media for that period, until I see this movie at least once. I would not have an online presence anywhere.

General | Posted 6 months agoChaz the goat has remained inflated for nearly 7 months. I have not drawn him since then.
Whilst I had planned on deflating Chaz, I'm probably going to keep him inflated forever, and here's why.
There is another goat character who is almost identical to Chaz, from someone whose Bluesky handle is "goatangular". This user and goat is far more well known than yours truly and Chaz, and could cause problems if I decided to revive Chaz. I've actually been thinking about this for the last 3 months. Even before then, I've had thoughts of simply letting Chaz float away. I've been sitting on the fence this whole time, but I've now decided to retire Chaz the goat, for my own good.
I'm letting Chaz float away, forever.
Stacks the Cat is also being retired, and the reason why can be explained in 4 words; Tim Rex In Space.
TRIS is a new Nick Jr show whose main character is a dinosaur whose colours and tones are on par with Stacks. Stacks might be a cat with brown hair, pants and shoes, but remove them all, and Stacks would effectively be Tim Rex, but a cat!
Coincidence? Maybe. But TRIS is a Viacom property. And whilst my April Fools' joke for this year focused on Thickshake Tanuki looking too much like Pinkfong, there are more than enough differences with both those characters. The same can't be said however with Stacks the Cat and Tim Rex. And besides, I don't really draw Stacks that often. I might have had the idea of making Stacks my fursona, but I have other characters that can hold that title.
So, before I proceed with my 250th art post on Newgrounds, my 1000th post on FurAffinity, and a long overdue 10,000 pageview post also on FA. I'm retiring both Chaz the Goat, and Stacks the Cat.

I haven't posted anything on FurAffinity because, well... I can't! But I can still write this journal!

I call myself ToonThick today, but 10 years ago, I called myself "anthromutants" over on DeviantArt. Next week (May 12 to be exact), will mark 10 years since I first used the name "anthromutants". After returning from hiatus, I changed my username on DeviantArt from EmperorSkunkbag to anthromutants. This name would last up until September 2016, and was also used for my one and only presence on Tumblr, and as my first Twitter handle.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of "anthromutants", I had planned on rebranding myself to anthromutants on most platforms for the month of May, as well as making Slingy Boombox my fursona for a month, since he's a character of my own species which I named the "anthromutant". However, due to FurAffinity's "maintenance" among other things, this was put on hold. My idea now is to rebrand myself "anthromutants" this Sunday May 11, and then change back to ToonThick on June 1, assuming that FurAffinity is 100% active by then.
I would call myself "anthromutants" and have Slingy as my fursona for 3 weeks! I'm not sure what Thickshake Tanuki would think of that! Speaking of Thickshake, his 4th anniversary is coming up on May 18. This would then be followed by the 6th anniversary of Tropical Muskrat 2 days later! And to top it all off, will be the 6th anniversary of AJ Marek's Murphy & Mitzi around a week later!
For now, I'm just hoping that I can start posting art on FurAffinity again soon!
