On hiatus for ANZAC Day
General | Posted 8 months agoI will be absent from all platforms once again for ANZAC Day tomorrow. I will return on Saturday (Australian Eastern Standard Time) for the 10th anniversary of Pirate Express.
Before I go, today marks 10 years since I officially left Angry Birds behind after being a fan for nearly 4 years, and I began my transition from a mostly fan artist to an OC artist. I made my last Angry Birds drawing the day before, and would not make Angry Birds fan art again until December 2019, for the original game's 10th anniversary.IT'S MITZI, YEEEEEEE!!!!!🐿

I've done many long bike rides (by my standards, at least) over the years, but the first such ambitious ride of mine took place 20 years ago today.
It was on this day in 2005, that I rode for the first time, the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, or simply "Warburton Trail" in its entirety!
Most of the 40 km long Warburton Trail located east of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, was completed, except for one section in Lilydale. That was completed in 2011, when I rode the whole trail for the second time as part of an event held by the local council celebrating the trail's completion; "Run Walk Ride".

All photos in the above links are from 2011 and 2024. No photos from 2005, unfortunately. Of course, back in 2005 I didn't have a camera, and the phone I had at the time (which was also my first phone) was a Nokia 3315. It was stolen just 18 days later.
But back to when I rode the Warburton Trail for the second time in October 2011. It was quite a wet day as you will tell from one of the images, which features the back side of yours truly! On that occasion I rode from Lilydale to Warburton, then returned by bus, whereas the first time I rode the Warburton Trail in April 2005, I rode all the way from Lilydale to Warburton, then back to Lilydale; a total of around 80 km (50 miles)!APRIL FOOLS!🎉

Yep, I went with a "cease-and-desist-from-Pinkfong" for this year's April Fools' joke! I could've gone for a "cease-and-desist-from-Be-Amazed", but I stuck with Pinkfong.
It did make me think about something though. There is some resemblance between Thickshake and Pinkfong, even if it's not intentional.

General | Posted 9 months agoI've been pushed around the internet for much of my time on here, but this is probably the biggest kick in the face I've ever had, when it comes to my art and characters.
Early this morning, I woke up to an email on my phone. This email contained a cease-and-desist letter, from none other than "The Pinkfong Company". The cease-and-desist which was correctly addressed to yours truly (a.k.a. ToonThick), was in relation to my character "Thickshake Tanuki". Pinkfong says that my "Thickshake" looks too much like their "Pinkfong".
Pinkfong are best known for "Baby Shark", but their mascot is the character which goes by the name "Pinkfong"; a null pink fox with a gold crown and an oversized gold star pendant. My character "Thickshake" is a pink tanuki (tanuki are related to foxes), but instead of white tones, it has dark tones. Thickshake did originally have a gold pendant when he was first created in 2021, but that was replaced with a yellow shirt in 2023. And whilst I know of Pinkfong (the character), I didn't think this would cause a big problem.
A few years ago, someone on Twitter once compared Thickshake Tanuki to "The Rodfellows", which resulted in me giving Thickshake a number of redesigns. But now, I'm being targeted by a heavyweight whose core business is brain rot! I've drawn Thickshake many times over the last 4 years, and no one has ever compared it to Pinkfong! Now, I have Pinkfong right behind me!
Pinkfong isn't the only well-known anthro animal that's coloured pink. There's also Amy Rose from "Sonic the Hedgehog", along with Sonia from "Sonic Underground". Plus, there are numerous Care Bears that are pink! I thought Thickshake Tanuki was a unique character of mine; even more unique since he's male, but Pinkfong is having none of it; they're only interested in brainwashing people, and bullying yours truly!
I shouldn't have to surrender to Pinkfong, but I'm being forced to. I'm otherwise facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit if I didn't abide by their demands. Under my current circumstances, this is the last thing I want.
And so, with great regret, I'm announcing the retirement of Thickshake Tanuki after nearly 4 years, effective immediately. Many people might think Thickshake is my fursona, but I do have "Seb" as my mascot. I don't really have a fursona, and if I did, it would be either "Stacks the Cat" or "Rattray Rat".
I haven't gotten much sleep at all since I got this email containing the cease-and-desist, and I still have a full day of work ahead of me. I'm not sure if I want to do anything at this point. I would probably have to remove every pic I have with Thickshake from all my socials.
I'm not in a good mood right now, so I may temporarily deactivate my Bluesky and FurAffinity later.

General | Posted 10 months agoIt's been almost a week since I started posting a select number of arts on Newgrounds, after dusting off my long-dormant page on there. And so far, I've had no problems with Newgrounds.
Compared to my previous 2 attempts at using Newgrounds, the experience has been much better. I'm now more familiar with the site than before, and the fact that I can have up to 10 images in a single post makes it more appealing!
At this point, Newgrounds is down for maintenance, I had just made an art post on NG introducing Slingy Boombox!
Earlier, I uploaded my first "movie" on Newgrounds, that being ToonThick In Colour. I just hope Newgrounds will approve it (it's currently "under judgment"). Which brings me to the cesspool that is YouTube.
I hate YouTube, I really do! I've hated it for a long time, but now I really hate it! I have had a YouTube channel since December 2022, as a platform mainly for animations, Steamed Hams and YTP attempts. I also have another channel dedicated to transport, that's been inactive since October 2019.
I made a vent about YouTube banning ad blockers in 2023, and the fact that there were a lot of fake ads on YouTube. But there are also a whole lot of right-wing bias, shoddy clickbait and slop; all promoted by YouTube's algorithm!
If I watched an animation from my own channel or from someone else, I would ideally see recommendations for videos of the same nature. Instead, I'm getting politics (Australia, US, Europe etc.), economics and news I have no interest in, shoved down my throat by the algorithm!
Australia should scare you? Actually, YouTube's evil management should scare you!
My YouTube channel exists as an additional platform for my animations and for watching new Murphy & Mitzi shorts prior to AJ Marek coming to Bluesky, but I'm thinking of deleting my channel completely, especially that I'm now using Newgrounds, and I'm also thinking about Vimeo.
YouTube's 20th anniversary is this year. I doubt it will be a happy occasion come April.
Scaling down or getting rid of my YouTube presence completely, will greatly improve my mental health and reduce my anxiety, just like when I scaled down my presence on Instagram, then deleting my account on there a year ago!
ToonThick is about cartoons and animation, and not much else! I want to keep it that way!

I posted about returning to Newgrounds earlier this month, however I will finally have the time to do so!
Starting today up until the end of February, I will post a select number of old and recent arts on Newgrounds, as chronologically as possible. I will also be posting a number of old and somewhat recent arts on my Ko-fi, so I'll be up to date with my gallery on that platform (which is free for everyone to view). At this point, Ko-fi will serve as an additional gallery for my art.
I'm also going to start posting a select number of fan arts, gift arts, art trades and ArtFight attacks of my characters by others, on Cara. I've previously only posted my own arts on that platform.
Finally, it's almost 1 year since I left Instagram for good, but there won't be an anniversary since I deleted my account on February 29 last year!

On that note, I want to start using Newgrounds for real, as well as increasing my presence on Ko-fi.
I already have a NG account, but it's mainly inactive and with only a few pics from 2022 posted on there. And the first time I tried Newgrounds back in 2019, I left after 1 day. However, I want to have another attempt at that platform; one where it could potentially replace my YouTube channel (in relation to my animations), and I plan on posting a select number of old and recent pics on there soon.
I will also be posting a backlog of old arts on my Ko-fi, and having a more active presence on there! I slowly restarted my Ko-fi back in December.

General | Posted a year agoOver the last 3 weeks I've added more than 100 old drawings of mine that were either posted on my previous FA accounts or never posted on FA before.
With all my desired old gift arts and Regular Show AU drawings now posted on here, this brings me up to 870 submissions. I've also posted all my desired old stuff on other platforms I'm on, with the exception of a couple of old drawings I've made for FezzedPenguin, as well as my Ko-fi, which I am slowly bringing out of hiatus.
I do have a few things planned that are art related, between now and Boxing Day. After that, I plan on being away until after the new year (if my car doesn't blow a head gasket). I'll write more about this later.All my old Regular Show AU drawings are now posted!

General | Posted a year agoSo I'll take the time to reveal what I have planned for the month of December in celebration of 10 years in the art community!
Starting later today, I will be posting a lot of old drawings of mine, at an average rate of around 3-5 per day. In total, there are 112 such drawings of mine that will be posted on here during this time, so a heads-up if I flood your notifications!
These old drawings have otherwise never been posted on FurAffinity (as ToonThick), Bluesky or Telegram (with the exception of the Broken Reality trilogy and a number of gift arts on Bluesky and Telegram). These old drawings can already be found however, on Cara.
I will be starting with the Broken Reality series later today, followed by A Brush Of The Tail (my Regular Show AU), then a number of past gift arts for others. A Brush Of The Tail will also be posted simultaneously on Bluesky and Telegram.
I'll probably make a new Brush Of The Tail pic for this occasion, specifically for Bluesky and Telegram. I'll also make something for my 10th anniversary in the art community!

General | Posted a year agoLast night I was reminded why I stopped drinking 2 bottles of iced coffee in a single day; I couldn't sleep! During the time that I couldn't sleep however, I reached 250 followers on Bluesky!
Like I said before, that's not the real number of followers since it includes blocked users, but still; it seemed like it was only yesterday that I reached 200 followers on Bluesky! So I thank you all for getting me to that number, and helping my presence on Bluesky grow every day.
Bluesky milestones aside, there is another major milestone coming up for me...
This Sunday 1st December, will mark 10 years of yours truly in the art community!
It was on that day in 2014 that I first joined DeviantArt as EmperorSkunkbag (the same account would become anthromutants, then FangRatPhotos). I did create a DA account 2 years beforehand, but there was never any activity on there, and the account was deleted a few months later. EmperorSkunkbag was my first real account on DeviantArt, and served as my entrance to the art community. I was inspired by an art exhibition hosted by Redbubble, that I went to 2 days earlier on 29th November 2014. I chose to call myself EmperorSkunkbag since that was a name I was already using in the Angry Birds community, and the name had been in use since June 2014 (albeit with 112 at the end).
I was mainly a fan artist 10 years ago (mostly Angry Birds and Regular Show). I did have OCs and were drawing them (my first OCs were created in 2003), but they weren't a priority for me. Come April 2015 however, I started focusing more on my OCs and making them anthropomorphic animals. By the second half of 2015, I was mainly an OC artist.
Over the next few years I would expand my presence in the art and furry community, despite many demotivating hurdles, and that has brought me along to today. Up until yesterday, my overall presence in the art and furry community has remained the same; interacting and sharing art online, and that was it! Then yesterday, I got the Murphy The Cat plush from Makeship. This one thing that happened yesterday, was a massive shift away from what I had been mainly doing in the art community for the last 10 years; the fact that I now have a physical plush of a character created by someone I know in the art community, and I got it before AJ Marek himself (the character's creator) got his!
I never imagined getting myself anything like what I got yesterday, but when I heard about the Murphy Makeship plush on YouTube earlier this year, that was something I just couldn't say no to!
Hopefully in the near future I can make a big shift again; by offering commissions (I did this in 2017-18), reviving my Ko-fi and setting up specific goals that would allow me to move away from where I'm living now, and open the door to ToonThick having a bigger presence in the furry, art and animation community!
Anyway, my 10th anniversary in the art community is still 5 days away. Right now, I'm going to focus on what I have planned for my 750th submission on FA, as well as 250 followers on Bluesky (which I have already reached)!

General | Posted a year agoToday I mark 2 years since I started this FurAffinity account, as a way to broaden myself across social media following Musk's takeover of Twitter.
I previously had 3 other FA accounts: FangRat; TropicalMuskrat and; ClunkTheSkunk; all of which are history. My 4th account on here, ToonThick, has lasted longer than any other FurAffinity account I've had, and has more watchers as well. In fact, I recently reached 150 watchers on here!
I'm also approaching 7,500 pageviews on this FurAffinity account. Once I reach that milestone, I will upload a series of animations featuring an inflated Chaz, which will be a follow-up from previous inflation drawings featuring Chaz (with Chavapa).

While today marks 2 years since I started this FA account, this Wednesday November 20 will mark 2 years of my Telegram channel ToonThick Alley! There's a far more major milestone however, coming up; my 10th anniversary in the art community, which will be December 1. That was when i first joined DeviantArt as EmperorSkunkbag.

Up to this point (or a few earlier points) many people who were on Twitter remained loyal to Twitter. Most people I knew that were on Twitter have now completely moved over to Bluesky, or are in the process of doing so. But there might be a few that will keep their Twitter up and running until the very end, despite the events of the last 10 days, and X's AI mandate kicking in from today.
If you're still active as normal on Twitter now, then why are you? Bluesky has now surpassed Twitter in every way, and you're probably on Bluesky now. So is it really necessary to keep using the bird site; hell site; Apartheid 2.0? It's up to you, but you're running the risk of having your information and art being compromised, even after you took the necessary actions before today.
Twitter is a sinking ship; a sinking city; a sinking island. Is it still necessary to stay afloat on Twitter?
For those who don't know, I, ToonThick, deleted my Twitter account at the end of July last year, so I never really experienced hell! 59 days later, I joined Bluesky.

General | Posted a year agoToday I celebrate 2 years of ToonThick! That was when I changed my handle on Twitter and Telegram from ClunkTheSkunk to ToonThick.
But before I go ahead, I have an announcement to make about my former fursona Clunk The Skunk.
Clunk has been officially adopted by TylerMotto as of today.
I originally retired Clunk 2 years ago just before I changed my name to ToonThick, then I brought Clunk out of retirement for last year's Skunktember. However, TylerMotto beat me to it with an animation of Clunk!
I rebooted Clunk The Skunk again a month ago.
Recently, TylerMotto shared with me a couple of Clunk drawings that I was okay with. Since they go in the direction of NSFW, they'll never be made public by yours truly.
A farting video of Clunk later, and I died laughing, to the point that not only did I appreciate Tyler's effort, but since he made Clunk The Skunk his own in those pics he shared with me, I decided to offer Clunk to TylerMotto for adoption, and he agreed.
And, since his birthday is coming up, he told me that this was the best earliest birthday gift he ever received!
As of today, 1st October 2024, Clunk The Skunk is adopted; now in the good hands of TylerMotto, and therefore a former character of mine. This means that all submissions from yours truly featuring Clunk The Skunk will be moved to the "OCs - Former" folder.

After just 48 days, I'm bringing Seb out of retirement! Seb, the mascot of ToonThick, is back! And will appear in my Bluesky anniversary pic later today!
That's another thing; today, September 28, marks 1 year since I joined Bluesky, courtesy of an invite code from 
! 59 days earlier, I deleted my Twitter account and left that site for good! Today, Bluesky is my main social media presence.
Now, back to Seb. I thought I was thinking clearly when I decided to retire the critter last month, but I've realised that getting rid of the ToonThick mascot was a huge mistake. Yes, both Cuphead and B.E. Amazed exist, but they have for a long time. Seb is still an OC in its own right; the cloud based on the ToonThick device. I was wrong to retire the critter.
With everything happening over on Twitter, more and more people are coming to Bluesky. So, I will take this time to say that I wish 2 particular people would come over to Bluesky; that being ArtDexo2000 and AJMarekArt. The former was one of my favourite artists on Twitter, while the latter has Murphy & Mitzi; a web series that says everything right about indie animation. Not to mention that earlier this week, I put my name down for a Murphy the Cat plush over on Makeship!
AJ Marek does have a YouTube channel which I am now subscribed to, but it would be nice if AJ, along with Dexo, would come to Bluesky. I would be very, very happy!
Finally, I'm away at the moment, so all posts including this journal, will be from my phone until at least Sunday.

General | Posted a year agoToday marks a significant anniversary in my social media history: it's now been 10 whole years since I deleted my Facebook account, and permanently ended my personal social media presence. In other words: it's been 10 years since I last used social media as my actual self outside anything, and using my real name as my main name.
My personal social media presence dates back to 2005/2006, with 2007 being the year that I joined MySpace. My MySpace account would last until September 2008, when I went on a 4-week hiatus, then I came back and deleted my account on the 27th of that month (nearly 16 years ago). I then created my first YouTube account which had my full initials in the username.
I joined Facebook in June 2011, then left after a month. I then came back in October 2011, then left again in August 2012. I then returned for a second time around October 2012, and I would stay on Facebook until September 2014. During that time, I created my second YouTube account which had my real name.
But back to Facebook. It may have served me well in some areas (catching up with irl friends; good relationship with the Angry Birds developers), but for the most part it did me no good. Facebook, along with MySpace, was a cesspit to me. Throughout 2014, I scaled down my presence on Facebook, and after a number of weeks without any status update, I deleted my Facebook account on 4th September 2014, and I felt good about it!
I will never return to such a site or anything similar, despite many countless people and many countless organisations heavily relying on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, based on the assumption that everyone uses those sites. But not everyone uses these sites! My sister, who is addicted and blinded to these sites, once argued that I was "missing out" because I wasn't on Facebook. And then of course, there was the period where I used Instagram and Threads (as ToonThick).
Anyway, 10 years have now passed since I left Facebook and ended my personal social media career, and that means next month will be the 10th anniversary of my first official skunk character; Daaws! Furthermore, December will mark 10 years since I joined DeviantArt, and therefore joined the art community!
