Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war! (G)
If there's one thing people know about me it's most probably my love of Pathfinder.
Well in just eight more days the next Pathfinder book comes out. Battlecry! will be Pathfinder's book that introduces a new ancestry (the Jotunborn), two new classes (The Leader, an intelligence and tactics based controller of the battlefield, and the Guardian, who others have called Pathfinder's first "true tank"), a slew of new archetypes, a barrage of new backgrounds, an armory full of new armaments, an expansion of the existing Troops (first seen waaay back in Bestiary 3 before returning in Revised Edition's NPC Core back in February), and a whole new Skirmish system to go along with them that will let you take command of these units.
Slight side tangent, we'll also be getting the Starfinder Player Core the same day which is fully cross compatible. That's six more ancestries (there's ten total in Starfinder Player Core but 4 are already published in Pathfinder), new backgrounds, six new classes, and more techno fantasy / science fantasy stuff than you can shake a stick at. Follow that up with the Draconic Codex which we'll be getting in November that's going to contain the Dragonet ancestry (IE: playable Fairy Dragons).
Suffice to stay, I'm chewing my way through each day until the 31st (and then will have to start burning my way to November). Damn you linear time!
But in commemoration of this event (and after months of being a fiddly cat), you'll also be seeing a new Alri piece. With war on the rise across Golarion (Cheliax has already declared war on Andoran, for example) it was inevitable that Alri was going to get pulled in some conflict or another. After all, the Kholo (Gnolls) of Katapesh are known to be particularly vicious and have a long history of slavery. They would likely still be selling some of those slaves in the markets of Katapesh were it not for the practice having been outlawed just a few short years ago. So is it really any surprise that when several shards of the now dead god of battle, Gorum's, armor came down in their territory that the Kholo of the Brazen Peaks might take up these legendary artifacts of divine power and use them to wage war on the surrounding lands?
Maybe Alri will be drawn down south instead though. It's been almost a decade now since the reopening of the Refuge of Nex, which has caused the nation of Nex to stir in anticipation of the archmage Nex's return. (The nation is named after the man. Don't look at me when it comes to this naming scheme.) Which has also begun to see a response in the nation of Geb further south, and even the Grand Duchy of Alkenstar caught in the blighted wasteland between the two nations caused by their previous thousand year war with one another.
Or, perhaps, this fire lion will have to hop on a boat and head back north again. I mean... Who wouldn't take the opportunity to tear an evil empire of devil worshipers a new one? Though maybe the fire lion's regeneration skews their perspective somewhat. "After all, what's the worse they can do to me?"
You would think that the death of the god of battle would mean there was going to be less fighting, but it seems that we are never so lucky.
As it is you'll just have to keep your eye out for the art drop. If the Fire Lion can take a bullet to the head and keep on getting up and swinging you should be able to wait a little over a week for that.
