Interesting conversation in my AP English class today, discussing the pillars that define a true mateship, a true wholesome commited relationship. Here are the pillars and tell me, how does it apply to you, or how do you evaluate each one.

1. Physical Attraction- Your general attraction to one's physical appearance, whether it be their eyes, face, body, it can also encapsulate sexual attributes as well.

2. Emotional Connection- Here is a really important one. Do you deeply care for the person? Do you find yourself emotionally stimulated or affected when with this person, etc etc.

3. Spiritual connections- How do you fare with religion? Do you care about the other's religious belief's or cultural beliefs? Where do you draw the line spiritually?

4. Finances- Does money play a role in what you are looking for? Could you suffice for your partners financial needs or wants? Do you yourself need your partner to have a certain amount of money?

5. Intellectual- How do you evaluate someone intellectually? do you settle for someone you think is more or less intellectual? where do you cross the line in terms of intelligence? How does your standards for an intelligence affect your goals, places of interest? Would you want your partner to have somewhat similar beliefs?

6, Societal- What do you look for in terms of manners, how the person acts in public? Do you care for mannerly action, or organization? Would you want to feel comfortable being in public with your partner? How much does societal ideals affect your choice of partner?

7. Personality/Friendship- You have to actually be friends with your partner and know who they are. How much about a person do you need to know? How long do you have to know each other? What traits and attributes suit you the most? What are you looking for personality wise?

I feel that these 7 pillars are an accurate depiction of judgement and qualities we look for when we look for the person we want to spend our life with. Relationships aren't simple and the fact that these are not the only pillars and I am sure we all have other things we consider, shows how complex and how much is necessary to think about in this process called "love".
