Zhoran is the big-hearted owner of a famous bar called "Caladh" which presents a perfect getaway from everyday's hustle & bustle in the dusky, steampowered, industrial city of Haarford. He welcomes every animal of any species, including hybrids, with open arms, no matter if they are into beer, whisky, rum or prefer one of his, not less exquisite teas. Before and after closing time, he takes up his second profession: The one of a private detective. Together with his closest friends, he investigates recent criminal cases in the city. As his skills in this field are well-known throughout the police department and the district attorney's office, his services are also highly-regarded there and he has an established network of contacts in these institutions. As this job is often to dangerous for only the innate weapon of a skunk, he posseses some other tools to fend off culprits and other enemies. With them, he is well-equipped to bring the truth to light, wheter he likes it or not. Meaning of his first name: Zhoran is a slightly adapted version of the slawic Zoran, which means "break of dawn". It indicates his optimistic, sometimes even uncorned, nature and his stamina that always got him through difficult times. But it also stands for the unforeseeable that every new day brings and the never ending stream of time which will finally consume us all. So his name is a daily reminder that we should enjoy every given day and live our lifes to the fullest as life is terribly short. Meaning of his surname: Lightreaver is a synonym for his ability to draw his strength out of his inner darkness. As he loves helping other animals with their problems, acts pretty selflessly and always has an open ear or a shoulder to lean on, he seems like a beacon in a foggy, starless night for them. This behaviour leaves himself with almost no light to use for his own purposes but he doesn't care as the relieved and thankful faces of his fellow animals always fill the void in his heart. He basically reaves the light of the sun to pass it on to other animals in need which then return the energy to him through their regained happyness. His surname also is a hint that he is somehow magically drawn to people that share the same gloomy attitude and have an even darker side than him. He also doesn't very like the light of day and prefers a nocturnal life, which makes his two professions perfectly suited for him. As he automatically comes in contact with the deepest abysses of animal nature while investigating murder and other crimes, his surname is also a metaphor for this. He could also be sneaky and furtive to others, even his companions. In the second case it's always with a good intent for his friends in the end, even if they don't realize it in this moment. This is also a direct connection to his first name. Long story short: He posseses a sombre character but also an optimistic, caring and empowering mindset. He is always looking to improve the lifes of others with to little regard for his own. Sometimes, this behaviour takes him off the rails and he then needs to recharge himself in total seclusion and apart from everybody else. This way, he ensures his long-term health as he loves his life and wants to be around his friends as often and as long as possible. Meaning of his fur pattern/tattoos: He was born with some very unusual fur patterns for striped skunks. They start on both sides of his head, run across his back in slight sinuous lines and split on his shoulders to continue unto the back of his hands. At the haunch, they split to the tail and to many more lines on his legs wo get finer and finer untill they stop at his feetpaws. The exact origins of this pattern are unknown, but his parents told him that exceptional fur patterns were mentioned repeatedly in their family tree, though it could take generations between them. These individuals were always special ones that strayed away from the regular family or even societal paths but, nonetheless, achieved greatness in their unique approach to life. After some poor experiences in the first decades of his existence that first shaped his current self esteem, Zhoran slowly came to a conclusion about the marks on his legs: Roots that grow stronger and stronger over time! After this realization, he found that he could add some fur tattoos in addition to his pattern: To underline his sarcastic character, dark humor and sometimes inacessible behaviour, that he normally uses to test if others really like him, he added some thorny branches to the lines on his arms. Animals who are able to get behind these thorns, get to taste the sweet fruits that they protect and can also be sure that they are protected by them. The symbol on his back shows the cycle of the moon, that stands for his love of nocturnal life and the fact that the moon also only "reaves" light from the sun to shine. Above the moons there are shooting stars who symbolize a sudden and unexpected glimpse of light in the darkness. You will never know how long it will last but for this time it will guide you through even the blackest night. The drops on his chest indicate his love for beer, whisky and other beverages that he made his main profession meanwhile. They are also a symbol for blood, the universal connector between all living things but either for all the spilled blood he has already seen while investigating crimes. As another icon for the duality of his character, he decided to get a moth on his waist. They are also nocturnal creatures but always head for the brightest light in the area to perform their beautiful dances. Before they can proudly take to the sky, they will need to undergo a heavy transformation from their caterpillar stage, which is also a kind of rebirth. Moths also symbolize death and decay, which are frequent companions of a detective but also first make his second job possible. With all these tattoos and his native fur pattern, he is probably the most noticeable resident of his town and every other animal knows instantly that they are dealing with an extraordinary but nonetheless totally normal and friendly skunk.
