Yes, I had one under the refrigerator, he got to be about that big, too. Currently there is a young one living in a shoe.
Very very far relatives, because tarantulas (at least the theraposidae tarantulas, not the big lycosidae) are very primitive spiders. Also, their bites are hardly worse than bee stings.
