The clean version of my gift to NightlySnow.
Gift for NightlySnow! I hope you enjoy!
Snow smiled as she downed another shot of liquor, and gestured to the bartender for a refill. It was late at night, the day before Halloween, and the bar was having a special night, all the drinks were one fourth normal price, and Snow was waiting on her husband, Red, to arrive there. He'd sent a text saying that there was unexpected construction on the road, and that he was gonna be late, much to Snow's disappointment. As she downed the next shot, the television above the bar started playing one of her favorite shows, Spook Searchers, a cheesy ghost hunting show, where a group of 'experts' on the paranormal went into old 'haunted' houses, with night vision cameras and some sound equipment to pick up 'spectral' noises, looking to prove the existence of ghosts.
The show was usually good for a few laughs, and as Snow downed what had to be her eighth glass of liquor, she laughed at the 'psychic' in the group of ghost hunters, as he made a dramatic statement about feeling a presence in the empty room. A commercial break came on, and Snow glanced at the clock on the wall. Red was about half an hour late. She took out her phone and checked if he'd left any messages that she'd somehow missed, and saw none there. Letting out a huff of disappointment, she stepped outside the bar, wanting a little fresh air. The white wolf looked up at the moon, appropriately spooky and full, for the day before Halloween. She looked back down, and a little ways down the road, her eyes were drawn to the old abandoned Gale residence, a large house that sat on the corner of this street, a house that was always rumored to be haunted.
She stared for a moment, before inebriation gave her an idea that made her giggle. She headed over to her car, opening the door and digging in the glove box, removing a digital camcorder. Still giggling to herself she started to walk down the sidewalk towards the Gale house, not noticing her husband's car finally pull into the bar's front parking spaces behind her. She started up the camera as she finally stopped in front of the house, and aimed it at the front of the abandoned house.
“Here I am, standing in front of the long abandoned Gale house, a place that has been said to be haunted for years...” Snow turned the camera around to face her. “And I'm about to head on inside, and rile up some ghosts! This is... Spook Searchers! Snow edition!” Snow burst out laughing as she finished her narration, letting out a drunken hiccup in the middle of it, and laughing even harder at that. She pulled herself together after a few moments, before heading up the stairs and onto the front porch, putting her hand on the house's front doorknob.
The door let out a loud ominous creak, as she slowly pushed it open. She turned the camera around to face her once again.
“Better turn on the night vision for a more authentic Spook Searchers experience!” She turned the camera back into the darkness of the house, and turned on the camera's night vision feature, illuminating the room on the screen of the camera with an eerie green glow. The front foyer of the old house was a big dusty area, with a staircase leading upstairs and the living room immediately to the right. Snow slowly swept the camera over the area, before stepping into the living room. It had an old moth eaten couch, and a broken rocking chair on the floor. Everything was covered in a fine layer of dust, and Snow wrinkled her noise at the musty smell.
“Well, if there is a ghost here, it certainly isn't the housekeeper's... WAY too dusty in here...” She chuckled a little, not noticing a dark shape heading up the stairs behind her, until a loud creak sounded out into the house. Snow jumped, and spun around, but the dark shape was gone.
“Creepy, creaky old house... let's head upstairs! Maybe it was a ghooosssttt...” she whispered the last part in a overly exaggerated scary tone, like one you would use whilst telling a scary story around a campfire. She laughed again, and strode over to the stairs, before heading up. The upstairs hallway was quite creepy, but Snow was too tipsy to care.
“Yoo hoo! Hey ghosts! I'm in your house, looking at your stuff!” She giggled as she stepped into the first room on the left, and saw that it was a master bedroom. The bed was huge, there was a big closet door, and a large window covered with some old drapes. Snow turned the camera to her face again.
“Hey everybody...” she said in a very dramatic tone of voice, though it was clear she was trying very hard not to laugh. “I'm think... I'm sensing a presence in this room...” she turned the camera to the tattered dirty drapes. “...and it has terrible taste in drapes.” She busted up laughing at this, sinking down to one knee. Until a loud creak rang out once more, and she quickly held up the camera again. The creak had come from the closet door.
“H-hello?” Snow called out softly, now feeling apprehensive. She zoomed the camera in on the closet door, a chill slowly going down her spine. The silence was slowly building tension, and the white wolf was just about to stand up and get out of the house, when suddenly, the closet door flew open with a loud BANG, and a dark shape came rushing out at her.
Snow screamed, and dropped the camera, holding her arms up to block the incoming ghost, or monster, but instead of getting grabbed and dragged away into the closet, she heard uproarious peals of laughter. Very familiar laughter. She took her arms away from her face and looked up at the 'ghost'.
“Red?!” Snow reached a hand over to the ugly drapes, and gave a tug, pulling it off it's holder and letting moonlight illuminate the room, revealing none other than Red, her husband. Laughing so hard he could barely stand straight. “I...I don't understand! What are you doing in here?” Red held up a hand, trying to pull himself together, but it took a few moments.
“I pulled up at the bar, just as you were on your way to the house! I followed you in, and came up here while you were in the living room!” He had to stop, as he began to laugh again, before he managed to speak once more. “You should have seen your face!” He resumed his laughing as Snow stood up, and began to chuckle along with him.
“You got me good babe... but the only reason I'm in here is because you kept me waiting at the bar so long...” Red was finally able to stop laughing, just chuckling a little as he stood up straight again.
“Sorry about that, there was a big construction zone and I had to take a detour. A detour that everyone else tried to take as well, there was a big line of cars.” Snow got a mischievous smirk and she stepped up to Red, putting a hand on his chest. She leaned in and gave him a kiss, pulling away after a few seconds.
“Why don't we skip going back to the bar, and you can take me home and make this up to me?” Red grinned widely at Snow's request, and turned his head to look down at the fallen camera.
“Well everybody, this just goes to show that everyone should go spook searching! It gets you laid!” Snow and Red burst out laughing, before she reached down and picked up the camera, before the duo left the house, Red's arm around Snow's shoulder, as she leaned her head on him, laughing as she played back the footage.
