Some more progress with my ongoing "Locomotive's of the Chase" project... I came up with the title just now upon submitting this. ^^'
But... since my last WIP on this build I've made some extensive modifications. The major change I made was the removal of the cast on running boards and the original name plates. The original Texas had a unique running board set up that also curved down and conformed with the splash guards. I thought about trying to manipulate the original white metal ones, but that wouldn't work. Or at least I couldn't make it work myself. So the plan is to replace them with styrene running boards, molding them to the proper form according to the prototype.
The other change I made was yet another new steam dome. I bought a dome set not too long ago to prepare for the next locomotive in this build for this particular project, the General, and I was originally going to put the sand dome from the set in my junk box. To save it for another project, but as I compared that dome to the ones in diagrams of the historic Texas, the new brass dome was a VERY close match! So I filed off the original/stock dome base and modified the dome to match the prototype. I also filed the roof to be radial rather than curved to match the prototype.
A lot still needs to be done, but it's coming along well. Please comment if you fave!

That's debatable, or I think it is anyway. ^^'
Mantua had higher standards and developed the molds and tooling for the motels first. The tyco got a hold of them when Mantua as a company went belly up. Now I believe Model Power has the Mantua name and is reproducing the models gradually. The old time rolling stock is now available again, which makes me happy!
