Well I have made some considerable progress on my 2-8-0 since my last post. And even more so since I took the photo. I have since been able to remove the "W&A RR" decals and have a smokebox front for the engine. Along with a few other details like check valves, air pump and bracket, headlight and bracket, backhead, throttle, and a few other thinks.
The cab, as can be seen, still doesn't quite sit level so I have to play with the a bit more before I'm satisfied.
Comment if you fav please!

It still has a long way to do, but it's coming along. The body shell isn't the original at all, it's from a box of junk parts I had. The stack was salvaged off of another locomotive and the domes were custom turned in brass. I may have to get a new boiler shell because the one here seems awfully brittle and is difficult to work with.
It just takes practice. I've spent a lot of time reading up on the subject, how to do this and that when rebuilding models and such. Practice is a BIG part of it! What I would suggest is starting by simply adding or replacing certain details on locomotives and rolling stock. Then once you're comfortable with that try making more serious alterations to rolling stock. Once you've gotten used to that is when you can try locomotive rebuilds. But that's just a suggestion, you don't necessarily have to follow it.
I have an old Western Maryland BL-2 I'd like to modify for my personal HO road. It's mostly going to be a repaint job with the addition and replacement of select details. I also am thinking about working on an SD-45 or two, and I'd LOVE to get an SD-90! A few of my non steam exceptions.
