Much like any magic user, Ghargash can, through his pact with Aquantis and now also Yvolith, sense the presence (or aftermath) of magic. While he's no studied mage or learned scholar, he can still feel the gentle tingle in the air that accompanies heavy magic use, sometimes for many, many years after it's use (depending on the magnitude of the event in question.)
A prime example of such a location is the Seared Plains on the north-eastern side of the mountain range where the enormous city of Bladeheim resides. The Seared Plains were the site of the final battle in a war long-past, but the land has never recovered from the intense amounts of magic used there; even those with only the lightest magical training or power can feel the extent of what happened there all those years ago.
