Beautiful work on this image and I really love the colors and contrast on the character. My only critique is that the moon seems a little jarring with it's big solid shape and high contrast. Everything in the image has a nice smooth feel, so the giant glowing orb seems a bit out of place. I feel that the image would work a bit better if it was a dimmer crescent moon and maybe you could have added a few fireflies to form a softer glowing cluster instead.

I hope you don't mind my crit, I know you said you're still practicing backgrounds. It really is a lovely image, and I'm just sharing my thoughts on something that stood out to me right away.

The soft orange glow in various places and overall use of lighting is great.
I love the way the bottom of pic is slightly out of focus..being a photographer the makes the image look much more real.
