The "One-Inch Punch" is a technique well known both in and out of martial-arts circles. Duk's particular un-named variant on it focuses the force of the true One-Inch Punch into a smaller area, that of two fingers/knuckles, for a very precise but powerful jab - in this case, exactly strong enough to crack the upper layers of bone without breaking the skull entirely.

The question is....do we have a Necro-Skull Creature here? Or....is it a illusion for a living target? [To comic artest: Do NOT worry about this detail yet. Seriously. I personally like it this way.]

I can only think about FMA and the seal Alphonse and Barry the butcher have on their skulls. Once ruptured the spell is broken. However the wizard could have put the symbol in a more subtle place in this case.
Also, don't worry for the "knuckles cracking the skull" thing not being clear. It was clear enough for me and if I figured that out, 99% will ^_^"
