might i suggest adding percussion caps to the nipples on that cover? without those it is an unloaded black powder revolver :P

0% understanding of what you said. This is basically traced from a photo, so if it's missing something, then the gun itself might not have even had that feature.

Being what appears to be a Colt 1851 Navy, this weapon was before modern cartridge ammo, which means the percussion caps (basically the primer, what the hammer hits to fire the weapon) has to be added manually. Without them the gun is basically unloaded. The bullet, charge, and percussion caps were often loaded separately.

Apologies for a double post, but the 'nipples' he refers to are the darker grey pegs on the cylinder towards the rear of the gun, where the hammer would hit. That is where the percussion caps would go.

I think I understand, and it would make sense, as I doubt the display model I had a photograph of was just sitting there loaded. I'll have to look into what the visual difference is... I don't know shit about guns :S

Basically, those grey metal pegs would have brass percussion caps on them.

Really it's a technical detail. Not many people would notice, being in the day and age of modern ammunition.

Hell, I didn't until nalo brought it up.

I watched a video about the Dragoon and understand the mechanics a bit better, so hopefully it's not a detail I'll miss. Luckily, I didn't write any intimate gun-loading scenes into this issue.
