It's okay, not a favourite for me but I'm happy to be rewatching it lately
I think its a bit toooo Japanese themed to do well in America, in my opinion. It reminds me of digimon but with a much bigger focus on eastern folklore, history and mythology. I have an appreciation for that now, but it might be why when i first watched it, I wasnt so interested. I think American kids would be a bit lost

That's one of the reasons I really liked it. I was on a big folklore kick with the gods of the four directions/elements. I think it would do well. Kids might not latch on to that part as much but I'd imagine plenty of older fans would appreciate it. A lot of my friends who are in their 20's do tend to appreciate the creatures based on folklore.
For me it kinda brought that nostalgia of watching Digimon, Inu Yasha, and Dragon Ball Z, and I thought they did well with the plot it didn't just carry on ridiculously like some series. Not that mega series are bad, but I tend to like shorter series. 52 episodes was just right for me for this anime.

Yeah I dont mind that aspect too, but I'm having difficulting keep up with all the references and chanting, so I wonder if someone who was less of an anime fanatic would have a hard time getting into it
I prefer 12 or 24 eps but that being said my top favourite anime has about 60 episodes ^^; so I dont mind something longer once in a while~
