Another quickish paint thing in between work @_@
This one's sunrise theme is kind of a bookend to the howling canine moonrise one I did before. I still want to go back and finish that one, but it may be a while before I get around to it ^_^

Really quite nice, Justin! I especially like the use of green in the background and the bluish purple in the shadow. There's some real painterly thinking going on here and it looks great. One minor thing; the antlers don't come out of the back of a deer's head but more between the ears. That being said, I really like how you shaped them into a windblown flow.
Thanks, dude ^_^ And yeah, I had the antlers in the correct place, but wasn't getting the curve to them I wanted. Rather than fiddle with the spread of them, I just kinda drew the curve I wanted and had them sprout where they would, haha. So while it's not necessarily a smart or even well-reasoned decision, it was at least a conscious one <3
Thanks as always for the comment!

You can, but it costs you six heterosexuality points. If you think you can afford it, fab away!
Hehe, and thanks -- I wanted to do something outside of my usual color scheme, and to have more than one or two colors in play, so I settled on this weird kinda creme-green-orange-purple-brown deal. It's pretty odd, but I like it alright ^_^

ha ha "back shots"
a cute girl at the summer camp where i was a counselor told me i had a nice back, and it made my summer. then at school that fall a dude was like "hey amanda said you have a real nice back" and i was like WHOA! MY PRIDE! but i'd trade it all for a nice pair of antlers...
of course, that would ruin some of my favorite sweaters. ahhh decisions.

CARDIGANS ONLY FROM THIS POINT ON WHITE BOY.
Frankly, I have enough trouble fitting through doorways as it is. Last thing I need is an extra foot worth of hat rack sitting on my head.
I know what you mean about compliments, though -- some chick apparently told a chick friend of mine in college that she'd seen me walking around campus and that I had, "amazing energy." I was pretty happy with that, although looking back on it, I guess that's just what you say to people who don't have nice backs, huh? Oh, well.
So, how you been?

The subtle framing and combination of background and leading antlers makes a PERFECT composition around his face. Though, because of this I would actually crop a fair bit off the bottom because currently it seems to unnaturally break up the flow of the piece. First impressions...still, love it!
Hmmm, if I cropped anything, it'd be the left third of the piece. I think the bottom needs the dark flats as a counterweight to all the fine, intersecting lines between the antlers and the trees and all, not to mention the detail of the face. But that's totally just my take on it. Playing around with different cropping options is always fun. Thanks for the feedback!
No way! You can't crop the left, you need the border to balance the amount of space to the right of the head.
I agree that you need to keep some of the bottom to counterweight the detail of the top...but just not so much of it. So, personally I would crop where his shadow intersects the dark trunk. I feel like that provides the most natural flow for leading your eye to its face.
...all this from the person who doesn't even draw ;) Oh, but I do photograph and that's heavy on composition I guess. Whatever :) I'd hate to be all pushy over someone else's art!

I'm always up for crit! And yeah, there's definitely some weird tangents going on. The antlers do go off the page a bit, but I can see how you might feel weird tension there. I played with the cropping some, but there's definitely room to improve!
Thanks for the comment, and keep the crit coming! It always helps <3
