Oh, man! My first political cartoon! I never thought I'd see the day when I would draw one of these. The internet blew up on April 23, 2015 over an announcement of Paid Mods for Skyrim on the Steam Workshop. Whatever side you're on, you can be sure that it's a giant mess.

I've only caught bits and pieces of this, but from an outsiders perspective, this sounds like a double-edged sword. On the one side, you have the option now open for people to earn money off all their hard work in a comparatively easy fashion through a community marketplace, and on the other, you have all the potential abuse that come along anytime money enters the equation, like people selling garbage mods to try and make a quick buck (unless there's a refund policy of some kind), the community becoming more closed as paywalls go up, and the fact that steam and/or bethesda is likely getting some kind of cut on the sales can lead to problems.
Again, I know little of the details, just an outsiders perspective from what I've heard so far.

http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7072800/ - my views on this, and a message to 130,000 full blown JERKS Who threatened a modders life...
I have no problem with the people who take the time to make great mods getting paid to enhance a game as long as the Mod they produce is top quality.
I do have a problem with Steam taking 75% of the cut. Im sorry but I want to pay the artist who's actually made something in a while.
My fears are obviously that this will spill into others games or steam will start hiking prices. Rant out of the way Wonderfully done picture.

My brother showed me some of what was going on, he is a big Steam user. From what he said the companies that make the games being modded are the ones shot set the prices and they get a 55% cut of the profits, Steam gets 30% and the person or group who created the mod gets the remaining 25%. Also he said that Gabe Newel has said this is only an experiment of sorts and he will have it stopped if it goes poorly or is not well received.
55% would be more generous than what they actually get. 75% is split between Valve and Bethesda with 25% going to the modder. The modder will ONLY see money if he's able to reach an income of $100, which means his mod has to sell $400 worth of profits before he'll see any money.
