I saw a commercial of Prop 8 today, and I don't know if they have different commercials for it or not, but where I live, they show only one.
A pair of parents talk about their son's school teaching him about same-sex marriages and the way they were talking about it, they made it sound like they were gonna force him to watch 'gay propaganda' all day at school. At this point, it sounds 'almost' reasonable but still horribly closed-minded, they don't feel comfortable about their kid learning about same-sex marriage (though it makes one wonder how parents like them go through when it's time for sex ed.), possibly due to the snafu that is Christianity morals (FYI I'm Roman Catholic, so don't think I'm just trying to bash Christianity) or that, unfortunately, that they are homophobes and want to live in a fantasy world without gays, which they, though distasteful, have every right to do.
Then we get to this horrible woman sitting in a classroom (I actually called her a bitch when I first saw this crap) and she talks about same-sex marriage like it's the damn plague that needs to be stopped at any cost. The commercial ends with the message 'VOTE YES ON PROP 8)
I was raised to accept the praise Jesus and believe that if I was good in life, I would go to heaven. One of the first problems I had with the Christianity was how they treated gays, even though they were Christians. I'll admit, I have never read the Bible in it's entirely in my entire life; but even so, even before my First Confession, I thought the whole 'man shalt not lay with another man' thing sounded like it was just stuck in their during one of the thousands of revisions made to the Bible.
I'm not gay. I support the right for people to BE gay and have all the rights that straight people do. While I disagree with homophobes, they have every right to have their opinions; and they have the right to teach it to their children. It is by the grace of God that they will hopefully learn about both sides of the argument before passing judgment on the matter. And even more so if they choose to not condemn gays for being who they are.
I'm gonna vote no on Prop 8 and I hope many others do to defeat this thing. I'm sorry for ranting here. But I will end it with this: This is a wonderful piece, I hope you keep up the good work.

Actually, it pops up way too often to be a later add in. Furthermore, if my understanding is correct, the scripture words it as such: "thou shall not lie with a man as a woman". It's specifically outlawing male-male sodomy. That's it. No mention of homosexuality, just guy-on-guy buttsex.
Anthropologically speaking, it's because the belief used to be that men produced 'seed' and women were um, the equivalent of fertile earth to plant it in. So it was wasteful and horrible for men to waste their baby-making fluids when they could have put it in their wife and produced more children, but it really kinda didn't matter one bit what women did because, well, they were just the vessel that you got kids from.
Admittedly the concept of microscopic egg inside, baby is made half/half from *both* parents is kind of a hard concept to come up with without microscopes and other technologies.

Actually, the source of the ruling lies more in the practices of other period-era religions and practices. Looking at the story of Sodom and Ghmorra, the male townspeople laid siege to Lot's house because they wanted to rape the two male visitors. They even rejected Lot's offer of his two daughters instead. The institution of homosexual sex is a common theme throughout many of the time's "pagan" ways, and the banning thereof was just one of the ways the Jews were to be set apart, much like the banning of pork. Kosher and non-Kosher also has some basis in health practice, but some of the more unusual precepts were meant solely to differentiate the Jews from "everyone else".
Actually Sodom and Gomorra were about the lack of hospitality not about homosexuality. This was the meaning of the story for Jewish understanding and even Jesus when he mentions the story in the new testament. The lead up to the destruction of the cities emphasize the cruelty and uncharitable nature of the residents, not any sex practices.
For a very long time, it was believed that human males had a finite amount of semen, and they could run out. Why you have so many laws concerning male sexuality, why homosexuality was a sin, and why it was wrong to masturbate. Hell, they're explanations of 'morning wood' and ejactulations was that a demoness had stolen your seed.
I know its a month old post...
I also think its important to note, that the old testament was used as a way to institute healthy practices, but without the scientific capabilities we have today, they had to resort to "spirits" and such. The old testament talks about how meat shouldnt be eaten after three days or if touched on the ground. Now thats a matter of common sense, but back then people had to be told that a powerful sky being would be angry with them if they did.
Same goes for certain forms of sex, anal sex can be a little rougher on the skin, and the resulting bleeding increases the chances of diseases, plus I can only think of other hygiene problems of the time, so Im assuming a lot of this was just a primitive relgious version of what has now become "wear a condom".

This is... Wow, very touching. The message is very clear to me within this picture without the title.
I adore the simplicity of this. The fact that you didn't add a lot of detail on the characters, and that you used simple and light shading really works well for the picture. It puts an emphasis on the vivid tones you've used.
I love the poses you've put them in - especially Peaches' pose - while you can't see their faces and expressions, the playful and cute posing really makes them look like they're happy together.
My favorite part would have to be the background. It really works well in composition with all of the elements in the picture. I really like how you didn't make it a solid rainy scene (as in, dark and what not), and instead went for a vivid, bright rainy scene.
You did a good job on making the background have the oil painting look to it. It doesn't clash with the characters at all - and that is a VERY good thing! I also like how you actually painted a little of their reflection in the wet path... Makes the characters fit in very well with the background. :) The fact that you used vivid colors and made the horizon of the background "open" really adds a heavenly touch to the image.
I could go on longer with adoring this picture and what not, but I'm really at loss of more words to adore this picture with. So I'll just give it a favorite for the emotion and message you put in this.
No on Prop 8!

No on Prop 8!
If that proposition is passed, it will be a blow to the freedom this country supposedly stands for. There's nothing any more criminal, immoral, or indecent about homosexuality than there is about heterosexuality. By embracing diversity, we create a world in which senseless atrocity becomes less common.
No on Prop 8 & another No on 8 site
out of fairness, what a yes vote will do
Yes on 8
As a stright, I'm voting No on 8.

You are a WONDERFUL person for doing this. <3 It's ridiculous how closed-minded people are about love.
I remember having an argument with a friend of mine about gay marriage, and he actually was stupid enough to say that "Oh well, if you say gay marriage is okay, then you have to say beastiality or pedophilia is okay." Needless to say I have very little respect for him now. I don't see how anyone could argue with that and think they're right. =/
This is a beautiful picture, hun. Thank you for making this.

ahem, that would be YES ON 2! I'm a dork. I voted no, but it doesn't stand a chance. We're not going to get gay marriage in FL, but it would be damn nice if SOMEone also wasn't threatening to ban gay marriage nationwide- thus revoking the right where some states have already granted it. The least we could have is a damn civil union.
This is a very touching picture and if I lived in California, I surely would vote no. I think it's damn well hypocritical to play the 'we want to show that everyone has rights' and then go right back around and remove the rights of people who do not share the 'normal' sexuality.
I am unfortunate enough to be a Bi-sexaul, in love with another male, who lives in Texas. I almost constantly worry about this sort of law.
What does my marriage hurt? Nothing I can see...
I personally don't see much diffrence between racisim and homophobics, although there are those who would beg to differ.
If I wasn't so strained on money, I'd move. But for now, I'm stuck here.
P.S. Don't think Texas is all bad. We're slowly......SLOWLY (think.....dial-up internet speed) getting less uptight about gay and lesbian rights.

but the jews and aisans are against it, and about 99.9% of they gays in america are in san fran, also if you look at the ones that are most for it, the hispaics and african americans, they don't vote anyway, so fuck mormons, and fuck anyone for it! if it passes, we can just bomb california, and move the gays to seattle!
Somebody in my neighbourhood put up a 'vote yes on prop 8' sign in their yard, and a guy at my workplace put up a sign on his desk saying the same thing. It really saddens and angers me that these people want to basically restrict freedoms for other people just because of their orientation. How sad :(
I know I'm definitely voting 'no'. Equal rights for all human beings, I say.

My neighbours- lesbian- got married a few months ago, when the court made it legal to do so. I was a witness at the county clerk's for them. They're really the best neighbours I've had in the 24 years I've lived in this part of town.
And yes, already voted NO on 8. :)
Whatever your state's anti-gay marriage initiative is, vote it down, for equality's sake. :)

This image is so beautiful and with such a wonderful message. I would love to get this as a desktop.
If you're a Californian, please get to the polls and vote NO on Prop 8. Oh, and tell your friends... because a lot of people get it backwards and think yes is saying yes to gay marriage.
Thanks for sharing, Miu.

This is really lovely, in more ways that one. I salute you for contributing to the cause and to awareness, and you even did it without stooping to softcore porn like I made <3
Mind if I link to this from the ongoing journal thing I've got going?

This may be my favorite of yours, miu. It's bright, warm, and the background is just gorgeously rendered. It's like everything is blurred by "rain goggles" in the back, that visual affect you get when looking through some morning haze. This would work wonderfully as a small poster, I think.
*sniff* This is extremely wonderful, miss. ^w^
It's actually sad that when I made a board about supporting those against Prop 8, I got bashed on my board by those that were against gay marriage. And this was on Gaia, of all places. What has the world come to when you can't speak out?

Gaia is full of trolls and haters. It has reached a point that one is more likely to be accepted shouting something in public than posting it on the internet. I think its terrible that we are allowed to pass legislation with no intent but to limit the rights of others. Where is Jefferson when you need him?
Maybe this will help soothe the pain.......
