I've been getting hardcore into Trailer Park Boys. I've been watching it off and on for years as a quick indulgence for silly comedy, but upon rewwatching it from Episode 1, it's definitely one of my favorite shows ever now. One huge reason for that is the near absence of homophobia. At first, these two, the trailer park supervisor and his assistant, were a bit of a running joke. Every time they were caught role playing with each other all dressed up (privacy is an illusion at Sunnyvale), they'd say they were rehearsing for a play LMAO. until one day Randy got sick of it and got them both to come out to a bunch of people in the park, so now it's public knowledge (as if anyone actually believed they weren't banging each other at this point). and while there was some initial surprise and awkwardness, after about five minutes no one really gave it a second thought, and throughout the series, it's not seen as odd or wrong at all for Randy and Jim to be together. Because Jim's a hopeless alcoholic, and Randy actually cares about his job and the park, as well Jim's health, this often leads to a lot break ups and reunions and fights, all quite public, all integral to the plot of the corresponding episode.
not only that, but Jim only knows Randy because way back in the day when Jim was on the police force, he first met Randy when he was hooking. let's just say no arrests were made
they're actually bi, and both of them have gotten with female characters in the show. there was one scene were Randy seeks out Bubbles cuz he's confused about his sexuality. He knows he's in love with Jim, but at one point he develops feelings for a woman. Though Randy is technically one of the antagonists of the show, an authority figure, Bubbles isn't terribly comfortable, but he's too damn sweet to refuse anyone's help, and even looks up both straight and gay porn on his laptop for Randy so he can see which one he prefers. When he says he likes it both, Bubbles tells him that's normal.
you know, the attitude on sexuality is probably as relaxed as it is because this isn't an American show. It's Canadian. something to think about
