The second of four illustrations. "Pigman" was a Vietnam War era slang term for the M60 machine-gunner within a squad. This future version derived some inspiration from Jesse Ventura's character Blain from the 1987 movie "Predator" in which Blain utilized a mini-gun he nicknamed "Ol' Painless." General Electric actually did make a man-portable 5.56mm mini-gun as the XM214 "Six-Pak" but it was never meant to be fired while being carried. Clearly not a practical replacement for a squad automatic weapon even though the XM214 weapon by itself weighed 27lbs (compared to 23lbs of the M60) and the rate of fire could be set as low as 3 rounds per burst (up to 1,500 rounds). But when you added in the weight of the power system to spin the barrels, the ammunition (which consisted of two, 500-round ammunition cassettes), and the low battery life which ran out after 3,000 rounds, the XM214 was never put into service.
