Okay, so it's been a while since I posted anything HOn30 related. Photo wise anyway. So here is a pic of a basic RCNG consist!
Right behind the engine there is a boxcar I'm currently working on. It is a kit made by Marsh Creek Miniatures and I also have their flatcar/gondola kit which I'll be working on soon. In retrospect I think the stain on the boxcar needs to be darker. The idea is not to have a weathered, unpainted boxcar, but one which the paint is heavily weathered and battered looking. I'll be using a technique that is used by Joey Richard of Trackside Scenery, who was awesome enough to share on his Youtube Channel.
His method uses chalk, funny enough. First he stains his wood parts and then uses artist chalk to 'rub' on the paint. A stiff bristled brush works it into the cracks and corners and a soft brush with dust the excess off. After that I plan on sealing it on with a clear coat and adding dry transfer decals for lettering. The same process will be used on the flat car and gondola. The trucks are also by Marsh Creek Miniatures, though they are hard to see. They're 3D printed also and are VERY nicely done! Difficult to paint though and I'll elaborate on that on my RCNG blog.
Anyway, hope ya'll like! Comment if you fave please!

Much Obliged!!
This one, especially the boxcar, nerd some work still. The engine will be super detailed and the boxcar still needs a roof. Not to mention "paint".
Although this is HO scale, it runs on N gauge track. And so these models are VERY small!! The engine and tender can rest in the palm of your hand!! XD

The ink and alcohol technique sould be avoided on wood parts thar are lazer cut, such as on this boxcar kit. So to get a stain to take it's best to use a solvent based stain, which is wht I used on the boxcar. In this case its flat black thinned with Testors paint thinner.
