Rinji sees his first ever town, albeit one that is abandoned and run down, being brought there by Drake-Long to explore it and see if there's anything of value they could use. Little does Rinji know that there's someone else there...
Also, Eri is introduced...but not the Eri you think it is. This one is actually the mother of the Eri you've seen in pictures. X3

The traveling student and teacher finished their trek over the hills and soon came to a precipice that overlooked what appeared to be a ghost town. It had all the telltale signs of wear and decay from being abandoned many years ago when humans, in the sense, ceased to exist.
“Wow. All these years growing up, and I’ve never seen a human city before. My father used to tell me all about them, how they were the among the pinnacle of human achievement. He seemed to believe that such towns and cities could potentially be restored without disrupting the new balance of this world.” Rinji said, taking in the sight before them.
“Yes,” Drake-Long said, “It would have brought the potential for great things. However, it would also bring about great change. Change that would be neither good nor bad.”
Rinji sighed, “It’s funny. My parents loved each other very much. But even they had differences of opinion on human cities.”
“I seem to recall their...‘arguments’.” Drake-Long said, rubbing his chin in thought, “It was after the discovery of one of these cities that he passed by one day. When brought up with your mother, they spent hours arguing over ideals of what would be best for the people.”
“Well from what I’ve overheard, my dad believed they could be restored in a more modest capacity, but with more Earth-friendly sources of power, yet mom felt we should fully embrace our animal natures and create cities that reflect that nature entirely. Know what I mean?”
Drake-Long nodded. “Yes, but I doubt everyone would like to walk around naked all the time.”
“What are you talking about? I thought we were talking about cities, not whether we should wear clothes or not.” Rinji said, confused at the sudden shift.
“Er...hm, yes. Well, your mother’s views on animal nature are sometimes quite literal.”
