We all know the difference between "person" and "human", the use of "human" was completely deliberate. From the Vilous Wiki:
"Originally, they were completely humanoid race identical to humans of Earth. But their bodies were shifted to humanoid animal bodies that are well known as anthropomorphic race, and all of them are living on Planet Tal for now. Thus they are keeping a sense that recognize themselves as human beings although all of them aren't knowing their original form."

If the next panel cuts to a shot of a wreckage of the caravan / wagon, my emotions are just going to walk out on me.
But for now, it's nice to see the officer giving strong words of encouragement to Ged. Maybe he himself will be in a similar role one day, he certainly has the tenacity and bravery to become a strong independent sergal.

It just doesn't read right when you have beings who have almost nothing in common with Human beings, Homo Sapiens, aside from being mammals.
I mean there is that weird quirk that happens when you have no-human beings refer to themselves and "men" or "women". But for, in this case, Sergals, refer to themselves as a totally different species. It is kind of ruining the vibe of the comic.
