Before we left Colonia del Sacramento we drove out to take a look at this 8000 seat arena, built in 1908. This bullring hosted only a few contests over a few scant months in 1910 before the practice was banned in Uruguay. Whatever use the arena ever saw after that is uncertain, but aside from well-manicured lawns the structure is abandoned and has been allowed to decay for a good half-century from the looks of it.
Technically, it is forbidden to enter the abandoned bull ring for safety reasons.

Tom Lehrer springs immediately to mind:
"I thrilled at the banderilleros' display,
As they stuck the bull in their own special way:
For I hadn't had so much fun since the day
My brother's dog Rover, got run over.
(Rover was killed by a Pontiac; and it was done with such grace and artistry, that witnesses awarded the driver both ears and the tail.)" 7X=Q
