Alright, Thing Thursday is here again and another character portrait is uploaded as a result and we are now all revealed that Nilibo is ridiculously old for a wild rabbit. There's life in him yet though ^^
At this rate, Forest Tails may only continue in September, depending on how hectic con preparations become and whether I can make this damn dialogue work or not :b
Comments to be answered as time allows.
Peace out!

Every old wise guy in any story is just in such a danger.
They are just so easy to kill off. They have one important purpose in the narrative, introducing an important concept to the audience proxy or doing the exposition and then ... yeah, what are you going to do with them then? Either not include them anymore in the ongoing narative or kill them off for dramatic reasons. I guess that's the main reason why that "kill off the old mentor figure" is such a famous writing clichee xD

Some tropes though exist for a reason. I mean, that's why everyone mostly uses an outsider as the main character, so they don't know shit and need everything explained to them. Just easier for the audience, since they need the info too. And Nele is fittign right into that trope. But again, it's a good trope, otherwise things would just get confusing.
And when it comes to old mentor figures dying ... well, again, what are you suppose to do with them after they are done with their one purpose for the narrative? I certainly haven't found a really good role for them to play after the exposition is done. I would be hella interested though to see if you can come up with something : D

Pretty much. In an environment of active predation their lifespan tends to be less than a year, two if they're lucky.
Most rabbits in captivity live for up to 10 years, though 5-6 is more common from what I know. According to wikipedia, the oldest rabbit on record was a domestic from Tasmania at age 18.
