The Pirate's Row Artists Challenge for Anthrocon 2009 was to create an image based on the poem Monday's Child:
Mondays child is fair of face,
Tuesdays child is full of grace,
Wednesdays child is full of woe,
Thursdays child has far to go,
Fridays child is loving and giving,
Saturdays child works hard for a living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.
We all chose our favorite day of the week based on the poem, and I chose Saturday.
No single image represents the hard working spirit more to me than the classic "We Can Do It!" artwork created by J. Howard Miller for Westinghouse in 1942. If Mr. Miller had existed on a furry world, perhaps this is what he would have created. ^_^
The entire set of the Monday's Child poem pieces will be displayed together in the Anthrocon art show. The contributors are:
Monday - Marci McAdam
Tuesday -
darknatasha
Wednesday -
caribou
Thursday –
dhstein
Friday - Terrie Smith
Saturday - Me!
Sunday –

Alittle about the original WW2 era WOW (Women Ordnance Worker) campaign; the bandana she wears has the Ordnance Department (Flaming Bomb) insignia on it and these gals made everything from .30-06 ammunition to the M1 Garand and M1919A4 Browning Machine Guns that used them; they also built the TBM Avenger planes, Sherman tanks, WIlly's Jeeps, and 500 lb. bombs their husbands, sons, brothers and fathers used to beat the Axis in the 40s. Along with the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) that flew fighter planes from the factories into the airfields and the, WACs (Women Army Corps) that worked as nurses, truck drivers and support personnel while the men slugged it out in Europe, North Africa, The Middle East, Southeast Asia and The Pacific.
Their contribution to the war effort was instrumental in our victory. For this, I SALUTE YOU!

Michele, have you seen KenSingshow's version of the same classic poster? If not, check it out at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2541715
Of course, I like your poster just as much!

Ah-HAH! I found you!
Hello again! I'm glad I came across this piece at AnthroCon, and that I was able to buy a print of it from you! I love it! My Mom loves it too, although she thought it was a throwback to Rosie the Riveter. I've heard a lot a people think Rosie was on Mr. Miller's We Can Do It artwork, instead of Geraldine Doyle... oh well...
Thanks again! *yerfle...
