He's been mind-controlled by Chrysalis, beaten by Sombra, sapped by Tirek, captured by Chrysalis, and now his shameful secret of airsickness is out.
The poor stallion just can't get a break and is only "Captain of the Royal Guard" and "Crystal Prince" in name only instead of essence.
I really feel for him and know that he needs to be portrayed in a positive light.
Perhaps he even really needs to go through several difficult hardships to rightly earn those titles and the respect and attention he needs.
Yeah. I'm a big fan who can see a lot of untapped potential in Shining Armor and wishes that more of it would be realized.

As much as I enjoy this show, I really can't help but feel that characters like Shining Armour have some of the most potential to be gained, yet is being wasted constantly to push for other characters for the sake of selling toys. (Yes, I know the show is a giant toy commercial, but still) With so many characters already included and constantly being added to either never be used again or only make a background appearance afterward, a character like Shining could have benefit from some much needed development to help establish a better relationship with his sister, help to demonstrate more of his personal hobbies and interactions with his own friends maybe in and out of the royal guard that would certainly help make him a lot more interesting. However, with the show entering into its final season at this point I am not holding my breath. As a few other bronies seemed to have pointed out, in a female dominated show in a prodominantly female centred series, he is only a 'Ken Doll' stereotype (the pretty boy who just smiles and is attractive for the ladies).
To me personally, he was off to a bad start with his debute episode A Canterlot Wedding in which he came across as incompetent and not able to properly notice any strange behaviour for someone who he believed should have been kinder and gentler than how Chrysalis acted within the episode. He was only made worse with The Crystal Empire when he was immedietly written out of the story again with Sombra planting crystals on his horn, then him being energy sapped by Tirek and captured along with Chrysalis again in the Season 6 finale. And despite showing him as a type of Dorky/Jock character, he really has only shown off to be immature (reaction to his room at Twilight's castle) useless (with all above) and one dimensional.
While I get that if the guard WERE competant in their job, most of the situations within the show could have been resolved without any real tension, but at the same time making them so unable to do anything without the Elements of Harmony, makes me wonder how in the world Equestria actually kept itself together for as long as it did when Celestia banished Luna to the moon for a thousand years. For someone who is meant to be a member of royalty, he really doesn't get the respect he deserved, but its mostly because the staff either aren't allowed to explore his potential, or he isn't marketable enough for Hasbro to allow any development to be given him. I really would like to see him get a chance to be proven, but as said before with all this in mind, I am not holding my breath for the final season.
Also, sorry for rambling. ^^'

It does seem as though Shining Armor’s main purpose is to look pretty for the toy line. Overall, it seems as though the Mane 6 have had to do far too much for themselves.
Fortunately, there have been some males other than Spike (or Discord) involved in a few important rescues. Shining Armor himself has had a chance to help save the day. I’m really glad the modern intro includes Shining Armor and his family beside Celestia and Luna.
I don’t care to look down on Shining Armor. The four ruling Princesses seem to think very much of him. Moreover, masculinity is not the same as power. Nor is friendship the same as ruling.
I must admit it took me years to appreciate Shining Armor. I had to become much more comfortable with weakness as part of masculinity. I’m no athlete myself, but it seems I wanted to live vicariously through one.

I'm afraid I must inform you that I'm no longer working on this comic, but your analysis is still appreciated! You can read the rest of the script here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....it?usp=sharing
