Hitting villagers with nets or pushing and shoving them until they get upset is something that has been going on since the very first game in the series. None of them translate to wanting them to leave your town or island — instead it just simply decreases your friendship points with them since you're doing something to purposely inflict injury on them. I really wanted to do it with the villagers I used to have on my island then – Boone, Beardo, and Walt, but I didn't otherwise my other villagers I want to keep would be just as concerned. The only way to get rid of your unwanted villager is to wait for them to have a thought bubble suggesting they want to leave your town or island, or to invite a camper and do three days of favors for them (crafting DIY furniture in NEW HORIZONS), and (if at full capacity when there's no more room to build another housing plot) select the villager on the list that you no longer need and then the new villager will replace whom you selected to do away with.
