Interesting...
What if I said I am a follower, and perfectly happy about it?
I have wanted to help people since I was sentient, and aware of other beings out there... it was in my play, when I played Xavier while the other kids played X-men in preschool. It's simply automatic... making others happy makes me happy!
I was considered group leader for a communication class in college, but I considered myself more of a mediator, figuring out what each person could handle best.
After all, what is a leader, but a sum of all of their followers?
I am a follower, and proud of it! c;

We must each beat our own path. I think there is room for interpretation in the lyrics. Many of us both lead and follow in different contexts. My impression is that not being a "follower" here is more about thinking for yourself and making independent choices in either position. Whether you are part of a group or leading it, you can bring your own intuition, your own personality and light and perspective. Indeed, any group effort is stronger with the diversity of experience of its participants included.
