To Lydia's surprise, the mutation appeared useful in climbing trees. This gave her confidence to try to reach neighboring town through woods. If she will encounter some mutants she'll be able to quickly climb up a tree and even move from tree to tree to get away from the mutant. At least that's how she was calming herself.
