These small critters only gather at the scene of a death. No one knows how they are attracted to the dying, but like clockwork they always appear, like omens of an unavoidable truth. They are hard to spot for they stand huddled in the shadows, completely silent as they watch the last life drain from the former living creature. And then, once it is done, they disappear again.
They are present at all death, whether it be animal or human, but the only when they are poised near a human corpse do their hollow eye sockets drip with tears. It leads one to think that perhaps human death has something special to it. Or perhaps something terrible. Whether or not these creatures are good or evil is questionable, and what they are weeping for is equally unknown.
