That's the "glory" of Garritan Personal Orchestra. *sigh*
I wouldn't call it a waste of money; while 80% of the samples aren't really satisfiying, there are at least *some* yewels that make it worth the money. As you can easily tell, the strings aren't among those.
EastWest was one of the packages I was looking at; followed by the Vienna Symphonic Library - which must be simply awesome (http://vsl.co.at/de/211/442/344/352/219.htm). Unfortunately, the price is also rather awesome, from their point of view. :(

Well, I could spend the money; but I'm just... bad at doing that. I like to hoard and keep things, money included; and I'm not really sure if it's wise to spend *that* much on a hobby from which I'm not making any revenue. Until then, I'll keep looking at those lovely packages (Symphonic Cube with 550GB... *drool!*), imagining how totally awesome it'd be to actually own that. :)
This is certainly a first. Your music makes me feel driven to write. It's like your inspiration is rubbing off on me. It's very compelling, I've never experienced anything like it. A lot of people say that they like or need music to create their art, but it's never worked for me. There is definitely weight to the idea that you have to be in a particular mindset to write well. Before I get started on something I'll usually listen to whatever strikes my fancy, something smooth, not aggressive like what I listen to when I workout. That'll get my mind where it needs to be. After that, music is a distraction. Particularly if it has lyrics. I'm trying to work with the words I'm writing. Throwing around a bunch of other ones is no help at all. I need quiet so that I can hear my muse. Focusing is hard enough for me as it is, but eventually I get settled in and the hours pass like minutes. It's a very satisfying process all in all. I tried to write every day before I figured out how drastically it was affecting my sleep. I'm leaving your songs queued up while I tinker with my latest project that's gotten stalled a bit. I'll let you know how it works out.
Inspiration works in both ways; sometimes, my 'mood' is enough to provide me with what I need to find a melody or theme, but also pictures or stories are a strong source of inspiration for me. Existing ones I stumble upon; or ones which I simply make up in my mind, and look at, while putting down the notes.
