As Rinji is in the last few days of putting the finishing touches on the log cabin expansion, Eri gets to thinking. Under normal circumstances, her wings, beak and talons would be enough to handle raising a newborn. However her life has been anything but normal. For one, she's many times bigger and more muscular than your average hawk. Her intelligence is on par with Rinji's. What's more, Rinji's friend Mimic made it possible for Eri to speak properly thanks to the biological addition of lips; nice, plump and red lips at that.
She got to thinking about when she turned down an offer from Mimic to transform her body into that of a full-fledged anthro, a decision she still maintains today. What she has in mind is scaled down. If what she has in mind works, then it'll let her have her cake and eat it too. Normally, she would inform Rinji of such a plan. But this time, she thought it would be nice to make it a surprise.
"Sweetheart! I need to take care of something. I'll be back in a few hours!" she called to Rinji from the ground as he was in the middle of installing a sky window he managed to procure.
Rinji paused to turn to face her. "Oh, well okay. Mind if I asked where you're going?"
Eri had no intention of lying to him, but she didn't want to tell him the whole truth either. She knew of the deeply engrained trust shared between them to know he wouldn't question an occasional ambiguous answer.
"I'm going to see a friend of mine. I wanted to share the news."
She stopped short of saying "him", because she knew Rinji knew that the only other guy Eri is friends with is their shared friend, Mimic.
"Alright. I'll see you later then." he said.
Eri took off and paused in midair above the roof, next to Rinji, as she gave him a kiss.
"Love you, sweetie." she cooed.
"Love you too, dear." Rinji replied in kind.
With that, Eri took to the skies.

Eri landed outside of Mimic's house and knocked on his door with her beak. That right there was one of the key reasons she's going through with this. After a few moments, the door opened with Mimic hunched over. His mask made it less obvious, but Eri could still tell that he had just woken up.
"Why is there a wall of fluff in my face?" He asked.
"I...woke you up, didn’t I? Sorry about that." Eri said abashedly.
"...hm, wait." He looked up past the wall of feathers and saw a bird’s face behind the large mounds. "Oh, Eri... why are you here at..." He glanced to the side, then looked back. "What time is it?"
Eri shrugged. "I don’t know. It was late afternoon when I left our cabin. Rinji’s almost done building the expansion for another bedroom for our baby. Guess I shouldn’t have hesitated along the way here. I needed to be sure, when I figured I already told Rinji I was coming over here so it seemed pointless to go back now."
"So... what, you went back and forth?" He gestured for her to come into the house.
"You could say that." She said as she carefully squeezed her way in through the doorway.
After Mimic closed the door behind her, he motioned towards the living room for her to sit down.
"Do you drink coffee?" He asked, heading over to the minibar to grab a drink. He got a soda for himself.
"No, thanks. I don’t drink coffee." she answered.
"Alright then." He opens up the can of soda. "So what brings the big, buff bird to the big blue house?"
"I’ve been thinking of something. Remember when you offered...well, more like tried to coerce me into letting you turn me into an anthro?" Eri asked, still remembering how he was rather passionate about wanting to change her that much.
"Because you’re mentioning that, you’re gonna want something in the middle of the road?" He asked, drinking the soda and crushing it like a tin can.
Eri shrugged. "Guess you know what that middle road is, then?"
"Either the arms or the legs."
"The arms, of course. If I wanted it to be the legs, I would’ve accepted your offer back then. But more specifically, can you make it so I can transform my wings into arms and back again at will?" Eri asked.
"In a word: Yes." He tossed the can aside into the nearest pail of trash.
"In a word?"
"Sure, it’ll be like those bird characters in this video game I once played. They have the same ability of turning their big arms into wings."
Eri smiled enthusiastically. "Thank you! Then I’m ready to do this!"
* * *
Mimic had Eri stand up with him as he walked up to her.
"Now you remember how I added your lips? It’s the same procedure, only I’ll need to reach in deeper to make the changes necessary to your wings, so they can function as arms and hands. You do want hands also, right?" he asked.
"Of course!" she said.
"Very well. Now then, please try to relax. This will feel a little weird."
Mimic extended a few tendrils of his biomass from his hands, which injected themselves into Eri’s wing arms. She thought it would hurt, but she didn’t feel any pain per se. It was, as Mimic pretty much said, weird.
Eri felt Mimic’s tendrils snaking their way up and down her wing arms from end to end, reaching the shoulders. She expected to see her wings change appearance rather drastically, but instead, she only saw a small decrease in wing expanse near her shoulders. The rest of her wings remained the same. She did, however, begin to feel a new sensation in those wings; something she couldn’t quite describe. The closest she could describe it was a change in her nerves within them.
After a few minutes of this, Mimic finally withdrew his bio tendrils from within her and reabsorbed them into his body.
"You can now clap your hands." he said.
Eri held his wings up. It was like learning how to use a new muscle or opening her eyes for the first time. She just needed to identify the new sensation in her wings.
"Just tense your whole wing a little all at once and focus on trying to retract your wings into your arms while making a hand with the ends of them." Mimic explained.
"Okay."
Eri once again held her wings out in front of her. She did as he instructed and slowly tensed her wings while trying to will them to retract into her wing arms. At first, nothing happened. But then, she started to make the connection with the new sensation she felt. It was kind of like taking a rug and rolling it up. Most of her wings appeared to roll up into her arms, adding a little extra bulk to her already crazy muscle mass.
She then focused on the ends of those wings and tried flexing them like hands. She was surprised to see those tips morph together to form actual usable hands, albeit rather large hands. She let out an excited breath as she flexed what passed for fingers, opening and closing them. She eyes her new arms up and down, admiring the added detail in the muscle definition, now that the fluff had actually been reduced in the process as well. A little of her wings still draped down from these arms, but she thought it looked nice like that.
Eri closed her right hand into a fist and brought up her forearm into a bicep flex. Predictably, her bicep peak swelled to inhuman size, exhibiting the insane strength that she possessed. She then relaxed her arm and smiled as she extended her hand and gave a big hearty thumbs up.
"This is great. Thank you, Mimic!" Eri said with sincere gratitude.
"Any time," he said, giving her a thumbs up with a foam finger, something which raised further questions.
Eri had grown accustomed to Mimic’s quirkiness. She giggled before relaxing her arms and this time focusing on returning them to being just wings. The reverse process was much easier than the first. Her wings immediately unfurled from her arms and the tips of her wings relaxed themselves to match.
"Well, I better head back. Rinji is waiting for me. Will you come visit us in the near future?" Eri asked.
"Sure. Want me to bring the chips?" He asked.
"Actually, bring some nuts. Because you can’t have nutrition without nuts."
"Gotta get that nut-rition, hm?"
"Yes." She grinned.
She immediately engulfed Mimic in a big wing hug.
"We’ll be seeing you, then," she said as she let him go, squeezed her way back outside, looked back once more at Mimic to wave at him with her feathered hand, which she briefly reformed, then changed them back to wings and took off for home, looking forward to surprising her husband with her newfound gripping (and proper flexing) ability.

Thanks, Paladin! It means a lot! I don't expect an entire novel on the subject, but to get some definitive feedback on something I put a lot of time and effort into makes this worth it. Keep in mind, also, that she need to be able to cradle her upcoming infant in those hands. That's, of course, why she got them. Bear in mind, also, that they are still wings when she doesn't need said hands. But head, I do think those are rather big hands. I had Mimic style them from the Rito from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
